Southern Trinity Area Rescue

Southern Trinity Area Rescue Southern Trinity Area Rescue consists of a group of volunteers dedicated to providing Emergency Medical Services to the community.

For 41 years STAR has been the 911 Emergency Medical Service (EMS) for Southern Trinity and Eastern Humboldt counties. Our service area covers Highway 36 from Dinsmore to South Fork ridge, and includes the towns of Ruth, Zenia, Kettenpom, and Mad River, as well as Ruth Lake and the Yolla Bolly wilderness. A non-profit ambulance company staffed by volunteers, we respond 24/7 year-round to make this

remote area a little less remote when an emergency happens and help is needed quickly. Whether you live in this area or come here for the weekend or vacation, when you need help we will be there for you. This page is to inform the public about STAR, other EMS services, weather, health and safety concerns in our area.

As a reminder, If you ever find yourself needing help on California state highways, keep an eye out for the little white signs on the road’s shoulder—these are postmile markers and they’re super helpful in emergencies! Here’s how to read them:
1) The top number (like 299) is the route number.
2) The letters show which county you’re in (for example, TRI means Trinity).
3) The numbers along the side (such as 51.00) tell you exactly where you are on the route in that county.

Never, never, never leave children, disabled or elderly adults, or pets in parked, unattended vehicles! Studies have shown that the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rapidly rise to dangerous levels for people and pets. Leaving the windows slightly open does not significantly decrease the heating rate. The effects can be more severe on children because their bodies have not developed the ability to efficiently regulate internal temperature. weather.gov/safety/heat-children-pets

Northwest California river temperatures are in the 50s and low 60s, which is as cold as the ocean! Swimming in water this cold can cause you to lose muscle strength and control. This makes swimming in cold rivers very dangerous. Enjoy your visits to the river by staying dry.
