🧼 One Year of Soap at Chickens & Scratch! 🧼

Can you believe it?! We have officially been making soap at Chickens and Scratch Tallow Company for ONE YEAR! 🎉

While I may be the face you see most often at markets and behind the scenes, there is one very important person who deserves a whole lot of credit for this part of our business…

My husband. ❤️

He is the soapmaker behind every bar, and I truly think he does an AMAZING job!

What started as an experiment has become something we are incredibly proud to offer our customers.

And what makes our soap especially meaningful to us is where it starts. 🐄🐖

We use hand-rendered tallow from pasture-raised local beef and lard rendered from our own farm-raised pigs. We carefully render and prepare these fats ourselves before they ever make their way into a batch of soap.

You also won’t find artificial fragrance oils here. We never use artificial fragrance. We scent our bars with thoughtfully chosen essential oils and use natural ingredients like oats, honey, botanicals, clays, and herbs to give each soap its own unique character. 🌿

From rendering the fats to mixing, pouring, cutting, and curing, there is a whole lot of time, patience, and hands-on work that goes into every bar.

And that’s what we love about making soap. It’s truly handmade. ❤️

Our collection is simple:

🧼 Oatmeal Honey is part of our Signature Collection and is available year-round.

🍂 Then, each season, we create one or two limited seasonal soaps that are only around for a short time.

And speaking of seasonal soap… 👀

Our FALL COLLECTION soap is almost ready to announce! 🍁🧼

I think my biggest blessing and curse when it comes to making my products is that I’m a perfectionist. 😂

Even when I’m just testing a brand new product, I want it to be right. And especially when I’m getting ready to hand it over to my testers, I don’t want to give them something that I’m already questioning myself.

So here I am… emptying a bunch of jars of my new Radiance Face Balm and starting over. 😂

This is my test batch that I’m making for a handful of people who are going to try it out, use it, and give me their honest feedback before I ever make the batch that I’ll actually offer for sale.

The balm itself feels SO good on my skin. It’s silky, melts beautifully, and I really love how it feels. But I wasn’t completely happy with how it was setting, and I just couldn’t bring myself to send it out like that.

I’d rather spend the extra time, melt it all back down, make a few changes and see if I can get it exactly where I want it.

This is the part of making everything myself that you don’t always see. There is definitely some trial and error behind the scenes. Sometimes a lot of it. 😂

But if it’s not perfect…

I’m starting over again.

Because if I’m going to put Chickens and Scratch on it, I want to be proud of it. ❤️

Saturday morning and I’m back at it! ☕️🍂

Fall prep is officially happening around here. I’m getting stocked up on all of your favorites for fall shows and working on a few NEW things too!

These jars are something brand new that will be making its debut exclusively in the Fall Collection. 👀

Still here! 🫶🏻 I’ve just been a little quiet lately because SCHOOL started last week, which means I’ve had to put my teacher hat on 🎓📚 and my tallow hat only comes out on the weekends. 😂

But behind the scenes, I am BUSY! I’m officially in fall collection + fall show prep mode, and especially getting ready for Autumn on Parade! 🍂🐄

Today’s project: a whole lotta jars of Barrier Balm! 🙌🏻 These are all poured, cooling, and getting ready to make their way to a fall market near you.

So if you’ve been wondering where I’ve been… I’m still here! Just balancing teaching during the week and tallow making whenever I can squeeze it in. ❤️

Fall is coming, and I have SO much fun stuff in the works! 🍁✨

I’m exhausted, but my heart is SO full. Thank you to every single person who stopped by my booth today, said hello, shopped with me, shared kind words, and supported Chickens and Scratch Tallow Company. It truly means more than you know. 🥹

I’m so grateful for everyone who continues to support my little farm business and allows me to do what I love. 🌿🤍
