Sundown February 1 until sundown February 2 is known as Imbolc or Candlemas. It is the 1/2 way point from winter to the beginning of spring. Just as Halloween or Samhain is the half way mark from fall to the beginning of winter. Originally a pagan Celtic holiday, it was appropriated by Christianity. St. Blaise and the blessing of throats occurs on Candlemas, as does the feast day of Ste. Brigid. Brigid, Bridget or Bridgette was originally a Celtic Goddess. A trinity goddess she is mirrored in Hecate , the maiden,mother then wise woman representing 3 stages of a woman’s life. She is also associated with Hestia or Vesta, keeper of the flame. She is the second patron saint of Ireland. she is the Goddess of Fire 🔥 of sun and the hearth. She is a triple goddess but during Imbolc is in her maiden aspect. Light a white or green candle for dedication or wish making. Brigid brings the return of the light.
