Northern Lights Foundation We provide financial assistance to local families with a child facing a life-threatening illness Our referrals are kept strictly confidential.

The Northern Lights Foundation provides funds to families of children with life-threatening illnesses. The money can be used to help with medical costs, travel costs, or as needed by the family. The children must be referred to the Foundation and determined medically eligible by their physician. The Northern Lights Foundation respects the privacy of the children and families we serve. Today we honor the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of the men and women who gave everything in service to our country. We are thinking of the families, friends, and loved ones who carry that loss with them every day.

💙 Volunteer Highlight: The Schneider Family

Some people come into the Northern Lights Foundation community through a difficult chapter and then choose to give back in ways that impact countless others. The Schneider family is one of those families.

Zach and Megan Schneider, along with their daughter Emmy, have become an incredible part of the NLF community over the years. What began as a connection to the foundation has grown into something much bigger.

Zach served for years on the volunteer Northern Lights Foundation Board of Directors and has supported countless NLF initiatives both during and beyond his time on the board. He continues to show up, champion the mission, and support NLF in so many meaningful ways.

Megan has also given her time and energy in incredible ways, including taking on the challenge of running on Grandma’s Marathon weekend with Emmy as a charity runner raising funds and awareness for Northern Lights Foundation.

And Emmy? She continues to inspire everyone who knows her, a bright light and reminder of the strength and resilience that lives within this community.

Together, the Schneider family represents what this community is all about by showing up, giving back, and supporting others.

We are so grateful for the many ways the Schneider family continues to support Northern Lights Foundation and our community. 💙

💙 Today, on International Nurses Day, we want to thank the incredible nurses who care for children and families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

The compassion, strength, patience, and support nurses provide goes far beyond medical care. They bring comfort during long days, reassurance during uncertain moments, and kindness that families never forget.

To all of the nurses who have cared for Northern Lights Foundation families over the years, thank you for the difference you make every single day. We are grateful for you. 💙

What is a matching gift? 💝

If you’d like to make a donation to the Northern Lights Foundation, a matching gift is a simple way to double (or even triple!) the impact of a donation, at no extra cost to you.

Many employers offer matching gift programs where they match charitable donations made by their employees. That means when you give to the Northern Lights Foundation, your company may give too.

✨ Here’s how it works:

• You request a matching gift from your employer
• Your company matches your donation (often 1:1 and sometimes even more!)

For a Northland family, "specialized care" often means a 300-mile round trip down I-35 to the Twin Cities or Rochester.

That drive isn't just time away from home. It’s gas, parking ramp fees, oil changes, and hotel stays when a one-day appointment turns into a three-day stay. While a child is fighting a life-threatening illness, the last thing a parent should worry about is whether they have enough in the budget to get to the clinic and back.

Because Northern Lights Foundation grants are unrestricted, parents have the flexibility to use the funds exactly where they are needed most. Whether it’s a tank of gas, a hotel stay near the hospital, or a new set of tires for a safer winter drive, we cover the miles so they can focus on the milestones. 🚗✨

We provide the light; they find the way.
