Spent a day in Boulder, CO providing a somatic + body based framework training for a network of BIPOC therapists.
Here are some takeaways:
✨Folks who are trained in rigorous academic settings are craving non-clinicalization of somatics (which turns out is the whole f/ing point of learning to use your body, but alas we’re here)
✨ The bridge between people who are teaching vs showing is equally as important. That’s why consultation and trainings that support both the intellectual learning and experiential are super important.
✨There’s a long way to go because there’s folks who are stuck in the learning and not the doing. It’s like learning ABOUT cutting grass vs ACTUALLY cutting grass. Not the same.
When I was in academia, these were some of my biggest ticks and it’s amazing that so many practitioners who have spent years in their work are open to a new style of integrative learning that blends ancient knowledge of the body with modern tools for wellbeing.
A lot of our therapist and social worker groups are where we’re seeing the most impact with somatics in the past 5 years. 💓💓
