After 98 hours of laboring at home, this strong mama and I made the decision that a transfer to the hospital was the safest path forward to help her reach the finish line — a beautiful vaginal delivery of the sweetest little girl 💖
From the very beginning, our goal was always the same: a safe and healthy birth at home for both mother and baby. While we prepare and hope for a homebirth, part of safe midwifery care is recognizing when a higher level of support is needed and listening to what labor is telling us.
A transfer is not a failure.
It does not make a mother weak.
It does not erase the strength, endurance, trust, and surrender she carried through every contraction over those long hours.
In fact, choosing a safe transfer when it is needed is strength.
Homebirth is never about “proving” anything. It’s about making informed decisions, honoring physiology, and keeping safety at the center every step of the way. Most times that journey ends at home, and sometimes it ends in the hospital — both can still be empowering, beautiful, and deeply successful births.
As your midwife, I not only support physiological birth, but also recognize when a different setting is the safest place to continue the journey. Safe transfers with good outcomes are part of safe homebirth care.
So proud of this incredible mama, her perseverance, and the way she trusted the process every step of the way. ✨
