Just more evidence to support that getting healthy amounts of sleep is critical to our long term health and brain function! I may not always be perfect in the food I eat or the amount of exercise I get, but this is one preventative health factor I truly enjoy trying to get more of!

Sleep complaints may be an early warning sign of Alzheimer’s disease risk in older women. Sleep complaints may serve as a low-cost, early warning sign of Alzheimer’s risk and a potential target for prevention efforts.

It is so important to make everyone aware of these! Dementia doesn't just equal memory loss, it affects so much more!

Unfortunately, these symptoms are easy to brush off or attribute to something else, which can result in delays in diagnosis. If your gut tells you something is off, it probably is. Follow up with your doctor so they can help you get to the bottom of the changes you are noticing.

When most people hear the word dementia, they think memory loss. That is what gets all the attention. The forgotten name. The lost car. The missing word. But in my clinic, the most heartbreaking cases are the ones where memory was fine and the family missed the disease for years because no one had t...

Our Story with 💗

June Minter spent her final years living with Lewy Body Dementia, a journey marked by quiet courage and the unwavering love of her family. In her last months, she moved into a nursing home in Stevenage, where she was cared for tenderly by her husband of 60 years, Mick, and their devoted daughter, Jules. Their life together had been filled with laughter, adventure, and travels around the world.

Jules knew her mother deserved one last joyful moment—a final hurrah. One of June’s final wishes was simple yet profound: she wanted to take one more flight. For that hour, the world of dementia faded away, and June was herself again—laughing, marvelling, alive.

A few days later June turned to her daughter and said, “I want to go home, and I want you with me.” With the support of Admiral Nurse Lucy, June’s wish became reality. She spent her final days surrounded by love, in a home glowing with Christmas lights, ornaments, and a tree, celebrating the joy of life even in its quietest moments. June died on Valentine’s Day and left behind a heart-broken family.

Tragically, Mick’s own health was failing. Living with vascular dementia and recovering from a stroke in August 2025, he returned to the family home, cared for by the Garden House Hospital at Home Team and Marie Curie. His room was transformed into a tribute to his RAF service, a reflection of a life devoted to others. Mick passed away peacefully on 29th August 2025, leaving behind a family shaped by love, resilience, and memory.

In the wake of such profound loss, Jules created June’s Wish—a charity to honour her mother’s life and spirit. Through the charity, people living with dementia can have one last wish fulfilled, offering them moments of joy, dignity, and connection. June’s Wish ensures that even in the shadow of dementia, life’s brightest moments can still shine.

A quick Amazon search for “best books on dementia” pulls up 397 books! Caregivers don’t have hours to curl up with a singular book, let alone 397 of them. So I’m starting a new series of posts sharing about recent books I’ve read. Think of these book reviews as the highlights you’d get from a friend over coffee.

First up: Floating in the Deep End by Patti Davis

📖Caring for someone with dementia isn’t about finding the “perfect” book, course, or strategy. It’s about understanding the person in front of you. Learning their history, their routines, their emotions, and the why behind their behavior.

There’s no one‑size‑fits‑all approach, and you haven’t failed if the generic tips don’t work. You know your person better than any checklist ever will. My latest post explores why individualized care matters so much, and how trusting your instincts can make caregiving feel clearer and more connected.

Magic, Mirrors, and Memory: Using Story to Transform Dementia.

A fog settles over life when the word dementia is whispered. For those of us inside it, the hardest part isn’t always forgetting; it’s how others begin to look at us as if we're already gone.We find it especially hard to get the message across to some of our underserved communities. All we see a...

🏠Caregiving is full of promises we make long before we understand what the journey will really ask of us. And when reality shifts, so do our plans, and that’s not failure, it’s part of the reality of dementia care.

I wrote this for every caregiver who’s ever felt pressure to “never” do something, only to discover that dementia care is anything but black and white. If you need a little permission to rethink, adjust, and choose what’s sustainable for your family, this one’s for you.

Dementia care planning isn’t black and white. This article explores shifting needs, changing plans, and letting go of guilt.

💡So many families wait to seek answers because the process feels overwhelming. But early diagnosis doesn’t take away hope. It creates it.
I wrote a new blog post about why early detection in dementia matters more than ever and how it can bring clarity, compassion, and meaningful choices back into the hands of the person living with dementia.

Early dementia diagnosis supports meaningful planning, clearer understanding of symptoms, and access to early treatments and support.
