On the days you only had 1% and gave 1%, you gave 100%……. If all you had was 1%, and you gave that 1%, then you didn’t fail, nor did you fall short... You gave everything available to you in that moment, don’t let your mind lie to you…. That’s what we miss about growth… At Routine Break, we talk a lot about becoming 1% Better. On Purpose. For Purpose. Not because 1% sounds impressive, but because small actions repeated consistently change lives… So if today is a 1% day, stop beating yourself up… Give your 1%…

1% Better. On Purpose. For Purpose.

One thing I’ve learned is that most people focus on the change they want, but not the development required to get there… We look at where we want to be and get frustrated that we’re not there yet, when in reality, there are usually a few steps in between that we’re trying to skip… A baby for example, doesn’t come into this world walking. Nobody expects it to… There are stages of development that have to happen first… Rolling over, sitting up, crawling, falling…. Getting back up. Then eventually those first steps come… Walking wasn’t the first milestone. It was the result of many smaller ones…

I think personal change works the same way... We say we want to be more disciplined, healthier, stronger in our faith, better spouses, better parents, better leaders, or free from a habit that’s been holding us back. But… sometimes the real question isn’t, “How do I make the change?” Sometimes the question is, “What do I need to develop first?” I always say, take inventory of yourself… Be honest about where you are today. Not where you wish you were… Not where someone else is… Just where you are... Then ask yourself what skill, habit, mindset, discipline, or area of growth needs attention before the change you’re chasing can happen.

A lot of people quit because they judge themselves for not being at the finish line... They don’t realize they’re still in the development stage. And that’s okay! Development isn’t failure, development is THE process... The change you’re looking for may not start with a giant leap, mine didn’t... It may start with identifying the next thing you need to work on and being willing to get a little better at it today than you were yesterday…

If we continue to keep doing the same thing, we will continue getting the same results… The same daily routines, habits, and decisions that got you here will keep you here unless something changes… You allow what you do not change… Growth doesn’t happen when life changes… Growth happens when you change. If you’re tired of the results, stop waiting for a different outcome from the same actions... Interrupt that pattern… Take a step forward… Make one change, even if it’s small. Do it… You need help with that, Routine Break can help.

May is ending… That’s a strange thing about time, you know?.. It doesn’t negotiate, it doesn’t wait, and it doesn’t care how good our intentions were... January feels like it was yesterday, yet half the year is already behind us. Somewhere along the way, many of us said we were going to start something, change something, build something, fix something, or finally take a step we’ve been putting off… Finally take hold of your life… it’s time… June doesn’t need another explanation, it doesn’t need another promise to yourself about why now isn’t the right time... The second half of the year is coming whether you’re ready or not. The question isn’t whether you have a perfect plan, the question is whether you’re willing to make a decision... Most lives don’t change because of one massive moment. They change because someone finally gets tired of having the same conversation with themselves and chooses to move… May is ending... Don’t spend June explaining why you didn’t start. The second half of your year is waiting on a decision…. that’s ALL YOUrs…

…… That sounds small until you realize most people don’t fail because they didn’t change everything… They fail because they tried to change everything at once... Routine Break is built different……. We don’t wait for motivation, timing, or some emotional breakthrough that may or may not show up. We interrupt the pattern right in front of us, then we move one step better than the version of us that wanted to stay stuck… One percent is NOT weakness. One percent is STRATEGY... It is the decision to stop feeding the same routine and start building a new one, On Purpose, For Purpose.

Felt lead to say this… It’s okay to be completely honest with God in your prayer… He already knows your every action, motive, thought, and effort anyway, there’s no hiding from Him… I used to pray, “God, help me get away from certain behaviors in my life…” but at the same time I was praying, there was still a part of me that knew I was probably going to do those things again… So now, I pray a little differently adding… God, please help me with this... God, this is a broken part of me that I bring to You… and even as I pray to You right now, there’s a part of me that knows I’m probably lying to You, as much as it breaks my heart and Yours… There’s a part of me that knows I may fall back into that behavior again… God, can You come into THAT PART of me too? Not just the part asking for help… but the part that already feels weak before I even say, Amen… Help me in the part of me that knows, while I’m praying, that I’m struggling to fully mean it….

I feel sometimes real prayer begins when we stop trying to sound holy and finally become honest with ourselves in prayer… It’s okay to get uncomfortable… It’s okay to get embarrassed… It’s okay not to sound “holy” when praying. It’s okay…. Name it and ask Him for help in those uncomfortable area(s)…

Let’s talk about it… Embarrassment is one of the least talked about emotions, but… it quietly controls a massive amount of human behavior... It changes people in subtle ways over time... Most emotions get expressed outwardly, but embarrassment gets buried… Hidden... Covered up... People laugh it off, change the subject, avoid eye contact, disappear from situations, or pretend they “don’t care.” But internally, embarrassment lingers far longer than most people admit… What makes embarrassment different is that it’s tied directly to self awareness... It’s the moment someone becomes painfully aware of themselves through the possibility of someone else’s judgment… Sometimes the actual event is small, a mistake, even a rejection… Saying the wrong thing, looking too eager, failing publicly. Being vulnerable in front of the wrong people... Yet the emotional reaction can feel completely disproportionate to the moment itself... That’s because embarrassment doesn’t just touch the event. It touches identity…. A lot of people don’t avoid things because they lack ability. They avoid the feeling of being seen struggling, failing, rejected, awkward, emotional, or exposed… There are people walking around right now whose entire personalities were shaped by moments they never fully recovered from emotionally. Not massive trauma necessarily, but repeated moments where they silently decided, “I never want to feel that again.” So they stop volunteering ideas, stop speaking first, stop trying openly, stop being honest, stop letting people see effort… Some people would rather look uninterested than risk looking foolish... That’s how powerful embarrassment is… It can train behavior without anyone realizing it’s happening and the deeper part is that embarrassment often survives longer than the actual memory. People may forget the exact details of a moment, but their nervous system remembers the feeling of exposure and once someone starts organizing their life around avoiding that feeling, routines begin forming around protection instead of growth. That’s why embarrassment deserves more discussion than it gets…… It’s not just an awkward moment, in a lot of ways, it becomes a hidden architect behind insecurity, perfectionism, isolation, addiction, emotional masking, defensiveness, procrastination, and even arrogance. Sometimes what looks like ego is really someone trying to stay one step ahead of humiliation… But there’s a truth worth holding onto… Embarrassment doesn’t have to be a life sentence. It can be the very thing that wakes you up, humbles you in the best way, and pushes you to grow… Every time you face the discomfort instead of running from it, you build courage... You build confidence… You build a new version of yourself that’s not controlled by fear of being seen, but by joy in being real... The moments that once made you shrink can become the moments that shape you into someone strong, self aware, resilient, and FREE… You don’t just survive embarrassment, you outgrow it, view it from that LENS… You rise through it… and on the other side is a life that’s more authentic, connected, and yours in the truest way… That’s the power in it… So, get embarrassed… it’s okay.

Mental health… isn’t always loud. Sometimes it looks like smiling in public and shutting down in private… Sometimes it even looks like exhaustion nobody notices because you’re still showing up to work, still answering texts, still handling responsibilities while your mind quietly fights itself in the background… People don’t always need someone to “fix” them. Sometimes they just need a moment where they don’t feel judged for being human... A moment where they can admit they’re overwhelmed without being treated like they’re weak. Not every battle leaves bruises you can see… Some people are carrying pressure, fear, addiction, anxiety, burnout, regret, or loneliness so heavy that even getting through the day becomes a victory nobody applauds… Be careful how you speak to people. Be careful what you assume about them… And if you’re the one struggling right now, stop convincing yourself you have to carry everything alone in silence… Healing doesn’t always begin with a breakthrough… Sometimes, it begins with finally being honest about what’s hurting…
