If you give yourself injections at home, always place used needles and syringes in a proper container.

An FDA-cleared sharps container is best. If one isn’t available, use a heavy-duty plastic container—such as an empty laundry detergent, fabric-softener or bleach bottle—with a tight-fitting, puncture-resistant lid.

Place sharps in the container immediately after use, and keep it upright and away from children and pets. Never put loose needles in the trash or recycling or flush them down the toilet.

When the container is nearly full, seal it securely and follow your local disposal guidelines. Safe disposal helps prevent accidental needlesticks.
