- Make The Dash Have Meaning!
Today, I attended a funeral that profoundly moved me. It was for the Aunt of a young adopted daughter of my family. This departed soul, whom I did not know personally, was celebrated through the beautiful program and heartfelt remarks from family members, sorority sisters, organization members, and friends. She was a remarkable woman whose life epitomized the meaning of ‘the dash.’ During the inspiring eulogy by the Pastor where the homegoing services were held, a recurring theme emerged: How do we spend our dash – the years between our birth and death?
This wonderful soul—a Mother, a Sister, an Aunt, a Church Member, a Friend—seemed to live her dash with purpose and impact, touching lives and leaving a lasting legacy. It made me reflect on how I am living my own dash.
The eulogy reminded everyone present to:
• Choose life and ministry with GOD.
• Develop a Spirit of Generosity.
• Choose to grow and have more grace for people.
The Pastor sneaked in a fourth message: to live a life that leaves a positive legacy for multiple generations.
I have decided this day to recommit my life and work to my life mission: Live The Spirit of the Eagle. I want to enjoy and appreciate each day, get more out of life in general, and inspire and improve the total well-being of friends, family members, colleagues, and others in my local and global communities.
How will you make your dash have meaning, eagles? How are you spending your dash? Let’s make every moment count!
For those seeking inspiration, I encourage you to explore biblical reflections on making the most of your time here on earth. Scriptures remind us of the brevity of life and the importance of living with intention. Here are some references:
1. James 4:14 - “Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”
2. Psalm 90:12 - “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
3. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 - “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die.”
4. Ephesians 5:15-16 - “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”
5. Psalm 39:4-5 - “O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am!”
6. Philippians 1:21 - “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
7. 1 Peter 1:24 - “For all flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls.”
