May 🌷is always a busy month traveling for graduations🎓, weddings💒, family gatherings & of course celebrating Mother’s Day & Memorial Day🇺🇸

When you can’t attend your regular yoga 🧘‍♂️or exercise/fitness class, you can refresh & energize yourself with a standing side body, legs crossed stretch. This stretch can be done just about any place, any time to loosen up the body after a long drive or to help your tired, tight, achy body feel better.

Standing Side Stretch with Legs Crossed -stretches, strengthens & lengthens a tight, fatigued body

A standing twist pose, done in sync with a smooth, easy, deep breath, will release muscle tension, stress & fatigue stored in any part of the body

Twisting the upper body improves the mobility of the spine, shoulders & neck.

The twisting action also squeezes the abdominal cavity helping cleanse, detox & tone the abdominal organs as it cools down the body & stimulates digestion

*The over lapping of the thighs ensures hip stability-
*the crossing of the feet provides balance
*the holding of the hands at the wrists creates deeper lengthening of the arm & side body

Helpful Tools:
Practice Standing Side Stretch using a door frame to help with stability & balance. Note how the arch side of the foot is pressed against the door frame to add stability.

One more important reminder‼️
Don’t hold your breath when you stretch. Breathe In, Breathe Out. In through the nose 👃& out through the 👃nose. Breath is what makes moving your body easy. One breath, one movement….your breath is the fuel your body needs 🫁

Good morning beautiful soul, let your 💫light shine🤩

Why yoga❓For me, aging is a true gift of gratitude. I love seeing what I CAN do. I don’t take my body or my health for granted like I did in my younger years. I honor my body with nurturing habits & constant movement. And, I don’t let my thoughts drift into the negative (at least for very long😁)
🌀 When it comes to my yoga practice, I delight in trying & teaching a new & challenging yoga pose.

STRENGTH & GRACE COMBINED
For yogis over 50 there are very few yoga poses more challenging than ‘The Fallen Angel’.

🌀The Fallen Angel yoga pose is powerful because it requires breath control, strong wrists, shoulders, hips & core. It involves torso flexibility to rotate the body, as well as arm and core strength to hold the body weight and lift the hips and legs.

🌀Practicing The Fallen Angel pose also requires physical strength that comes from consistent yoga practice. The most amazing benefit that comes with mastering this pose is that you develop mental strength, emotional balance & unshakeable self confidence about aging‼️🧘‍♂️

The truth about aging is that physical things do become harder, or even impossible. But, a lot becomes better, more resilient after you have lived through some disappointments & hardships.😁In yoga the mind, body & spirit can become finely tuned revealing a stronger, less fearful, more playful you. A special gift 🎁when you are older. Too bad we can’t feel this way in our 20’s.

Try this fun & challenging yoga drill 🔻🔻🔻
*Lay supine (face up)on your yoga mat (bed or floor also works)
*Balance a yoga block on the bottom of one foot (no block? Use a paperback book)
*while lifting the opposite leg

BOOM💥you just activated core strength, ankle stability & full body control that will strengthen the connection between your brain & your body- as you focus 🫪on keeping that block balanced on your foot this is happening🔻

So, You don’t L❤️ve your love handles❓

It’s a simple question, but the answer is a little more complicated. This side belly fat is not easy to shed & isn’t just a woman thing, men have Love Handles too‼️

Triangle Pose, done daily & done the right way, will get rid of bulging love handles & give you a strong, defined side body🔻🔻

Look at the photo carefully, note where the bottom hand is positioned & how the chest is lifted upward NOT sagging forward.
If you hover the bottom hand instead of resting it on the leg/thigh or using a block, things change quite a bit.
When your torso isn’t supported by your arm anymore – your top-side obliques have to step in to help hold you up against gravity.
Not supporting the bottom arm is an important distinction that gets maximum strengthening & slimming in the side body.

Until you can build up your strength against gravity Start 🔻here 🔻in a seat variation of Triangle Pose

The Results❓Triangle Pose also stretches & strengthens your back, hips, thighs & legs. The Pose stimulates the abdominal organs & improves digestion. This Pose is also one of the best poses to beat stress, relieve a backache & prevent osteoporosis👏👏👏
