Emotional Intelligence tip of the day! 💚
This is not true across the board, so take a breath and stay with me for a moment.
Sometimes we don't do something because we're afraid of creating discomfort, in ourselves or in other people.
We're afraid to do it because it might be hard and, maybe more commonly, because we don't know where it's going to lead.
Or we don't follow our intuition toward something that feels true and good (or don't step away from something that feels routinely stifling or out of alignment with our values) because we're afraid that someone else in our world will be upset by that decision.
And so we disconnect from our own opportunities for growth because we don't want to sit in the uncomfortable aftermath.
But when you finally decide that discomfort isn't the enemy, and that what's on the other side is worth pursuing,
and you learn to let other people be responsible for their feelings and their opinions of you —
well, that's where the breakthroughs happen.
That's where something completely new and unexpected can blossom, because you're no longer living within the constraints of an older version of yourself.
Growth requires learning how to sit with discomfort.
It requires letting other people be responsible for their thoughts and feelings.
It requires letting go of the outcome — of living in alignment with your own integrity and being willing to walk through some lonely moments, losses, and dead-ends in order to build the skills, experience, and resilience to really appreciate and embody the connection, joy, and creativity that comes on the other side.
What scares you about what you want?
Okay, now what REALLY scares you?
What would it look like if you learned to sit with that fear and move through it to the other side?
If you're working on being with yourself in grounding ways and working to develop your resilience to find deeper connection, I highly recommend checking out my new book, "The Wisdom of Feeling" — it's out now! Order at the link below.
