We are trying something new. We wanted to focus on some fantastic donated embryos for patients seeking them.

Donor Number: EMD629
Donation Method: Anonymous/Non-disclosed

Female Characteristics:

Male Characteristics:
Caucasian, with large bone structure, blue/hazel eyes, medium brown hair, 5’10”, 240 lb, Catholic, Lawyer, JD educated, and likes running and reading.

• Year created: 2002
• Age of women when created: 32
• Number of children created within donor family: 3 (singleton and twins, implantation rates high)
[The children were high honor students, top of their high school class, college, and post-grad training.]
• Day frozen: D6 (blastocysts)
• Number of embryos available: 8

Donors Request the following of the embryo recipients:
• Married Caucasian heterosexuals
• Catholic
• Not currently living in Florida
• At least one parent with a college education

Why are these embryos so special?
While the embryos have been frozen for 22 years, embryos frozen for up to 30 years have built families through embryo donation! The duration of freezing does not influence success rates. The three offspring were also quite bright. Great embryos!

As many of you might be aware, the vote to pass the Right to IVF Act was 48 for and 47 against. We needed 60 votes for passage. The Republicans almost universally voted against the bill.

I had an almost "out-of-body" experience hearing so many of the Senators telling their own IVF stories and the stories of their families, friends, and constituents. Never before has there been such support public for IVF!

A special thank you goes out to Senator Chuck Schumer for his invitation to attend the vote. ASRM and RESOLVE were out in force to support the bill.

A mountain is not moved overnight, so we have more work to do. While it was disappointing that the bill did not pass, the support was clear, and the path ahead set.

I am here in Washington DC, supporting the comprehensive Right to IVF Act! This new sweeping legislative package would both establish a nationwide right to in-vitro fertilization (IVF), and other assisted reproductive technology (ART), as well as lower the costs of IVF treatment for the millions of families who need it to have their children! I will be in the Senate Chambers tomorrow to observe this amazing bill's passage. Wish us all luck! https://www.duckworth.senate.gov/news/press-releases/duckworth-murray-booker-unveil-sweeping-legislative-package-to-establish-a-nationwide-right-to-ivf-and-lower-ivf-costs-for-families #:~:text=The%20Right%20to%20IVF%20Act,needed%20to%20build%20their%20families

Dear Patient,

We hope this email finds you well.

We are passing along this notice on a research study with Dr. Jody Madeira, Professor of Law at Maurer School of Law at Indiana University, Bloomington. This research study will assess the medical and psychological outcomes of children born via embryo donation, including obstetrical outcomes and variables, embryo characteristics prior to transfer, and parental adaptation to parenthood. It consists of one anonymous online survey that may take up to 30 minutes to complete. If you choose, you may also leave your email to participate in a follow-up survey to discuss decision-making and experiences of undergoing embryo donation.

You were selected as a possible participant because you underwent fertility treatment via embryo donation, became pregnant, and gave birth to a child. You will not be compensated for participating in this study. Any questions should be directed to Dr. Madeira at [email protected] or 812-856-1082.

Our organization is neither encouraging you nor discouraging you from participating in this research study, and cannot answer questions about this study. No one from this organization will not know whether or not you choose to participate. Your choice of whether or not to participate will not affect any current or future relationship with this organization.

My medical school, Southern Illinois School of Medicine, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. As part of the celebration, they wanted to highlight 50 past alumni. I was asked to submit a few paragraphs and am both surprised and honored that they chose to feature my story.

In this time of extraordinary difficulties, it is kind of nice to read something a bit more positive.

There was a great story today on The Today Show. For those of you that know me well, I feel it is an important topic and one that continues to vex the reproductive world, including both patients and physicians alike. I thought The Today Show did a very good job on the story. All comments are welcome!

Advances in fertility treatment have brought new hope to couples struggling to conceive. But now the reproductive medical community is facing an unanticipated ethical dilemma: what to do with abandoned embryos. NBC’s Morgan Radford reports on TODAY.

Those of us in the trenches taking care of patients all have concerns regarding the growing number of abandoned embryos. Final cryopreserved human embryo disposition decisions are difficult, to say the least. There was an interesting piece published in the NYT's recently. Please take a look at the short piece and chime in if you have any suggestions regarding this difficult decision.

My husband and I have three fertilized eggs on ice, and we’re paralyzed.

I was recently interviewed by Evan Dean of NBC-2 regarding a claim by a UK physician that he had a surgery that could delay Menopause by 20 years. Mr. Dean did an excellent job reviewing the topic. I had significant concerns that this really was not standard of care and that there was virtually no data that could support the 20-year claim. Thank you, NBC-2 and Mr. Dean, for dealing with the issue in a balanced way.

For women, menopause can be downright miserable.

Dr. Sweet's practice reports about 24% of more than 1,000 are considered abandoned. His goal is to make sure patients don't forget about them.

We were recently interviewed by NBC (national) for a story regarding abandoned cryopreserved human embryos (https://www.nbcnews.com/health/features/nation-s-fertility-clinics-struggle-growing-number-abandoned-embryos-n1040806). One of the reasons we created Embryo Donation International was to provide potential embryo donor with a safe, secure and experienced embryo donation program so they might consider donation rather than discarding or abandoning their embryos.

The local NBC affiliate did interviewed me last week for a follow-up story and are seeking patients to interview. Both embryo donors and embryo recipients could be interviewed. The patient(s) do not have to live nearby.

If you are possibly available to speak to the journalist (she was bright and asked great questions), please call our office at 239-275-5728 after 8:30 AM EST, ask to speak to Pam and toss your hat into the ring! Thanks much!

The dilemma over what to do with embryos cast aside, and who should assume ownership of them, is a thorny one.
