You can:

🍏slow down biological aging
🍏look good

And, like the beneficial apple, we'll look at all kinds of natural strategies that you can incorporate to improve your health and well-being and emerge well.

The First Part of Being Happy is Being Grateful.

It's Thanksgiving 🍂 and there is a lot to be grateful for.

And before I share what I'm grateful for, I also want to recognize that yes - it seems like much of the world has lost its mind, people are stressed beyond measure, and love + kindness has been abandoned...AND EVEN STILL we can be grateful.

We can choose to focus our attention (another kind of currency/resource that we trade other than money) on the good and what is working for us, rather than what isn't.

I recently rewatched the movie Letters to Juliet with Amanda Seyfried and Vanessa Redgrave. Sophia, played by Amanda Seyfriend, has persistence, passion, and imagination to protect love in near-impossible conditions is something inspiring and something we can all learn from.

Remember there is no one who gets to control or take over your mind without your permission. Those precious 6 inches between your ears is your sovereign state.

😠 If you are angry - turn off the news/media and stop listening to politicians who use us versus them rhetoric.

😱 if you are fearful, go outside, ground yourself into Mother 🌎 and let her heal you.

😟 if you are worried about your body-mind being taken down by all the toxicity in our modern environment, do the physical work that will make you and .

And, practice living one day at a time. It can seem like a struggle at first to practice gratitude when it's so easy to see and identify with that which is so negative.

Be gentle with yourself. Be gentle with others. Stress-less and don't let the algorithm win.

STEP #5

Meal timing.

Gradually increase the time between your meals to every 3.5 to 4 hours, in your 12-hour feeding window (see STEP 1).

👉🏻Regular meals close to the same time each day helps with blood sugar regulation.

👉🏻It's more though than just the blood sugar highs and lows. When you consume food and beverages you are sending a powerful signal to every cell in your body, influencing levels of inflammation, how quickly your body can replace old dying cells with new, stronger, more vital ones + the health of our gut microbiome and even your circadian clock.

👉🏻Better said meal timing might do all this good stuff for your body-brain health because it helps nourish the vast network of 24-hour cycles that run in the background of every cell in the human body, and its circadian rhythm that drive constant fluctuations in hormones, metabolism, and everything you do and think throughout your day.

Breaking up is hard to do – I get it! But if your 🎯 is to increase metabolic flexibility so you age well, feel good, and function better then it is time to call it off with sugar.

STEP #4

Break up with sugar and refined carbs at least 6 of 7 days every week + decrease the number of total carbs (including fruit) you eat at each meal. The lower the carbohydrate intake equals lower insulin levels. This translates to greater metabolic flexibility and improving body-brain performance. When you must have fruit, a sweet treat, or starchy carbs like potatoes, as much as possible eat them by 3-4 o'clock in the afternoon, and eat them after your protein, fats, and veggies.

Why? Because carbs of all kinds deliver a quick hit of glucose into your bloodstream, eating them after your protein, fats, and veggies helps to regulate the release of insulin in response to the glucose in your bloodstream.

So, for example, if you're eating a meal that consists of chicken breast, avocado, and veggies plus a sweet potato or some fruit, eat your chicken breast, avocado, and veggies first, follow that up with the sweet potato and/or fruit.

Let's munch on...

STEP #3

Increase your intake of non-starchy vegetables and greens containing carbs and fiber that help with blood sugar (glucose) stabilization. Vegetables also feed the good gut bugs and increase their diversity in the gut to support metabolism and immunity.

STEP #2, increasing your metabolic flexibility (MF) is, Exercise + Movement

Exercise for 30-50 minutes every day. This is especially helpful first thing in the morning and after meals. It does not have to be the same activity. Functional full-body workouts designed to improve metabolic rate, strength, and endurance like those + regular movement like walking for 30 minutes outdoors after a meal help lower your insulin levels, naturally, balance hormones, dial-in energy, and restore your body to utilizing fat.

We all know what it means to be inflexible in life, but are you aware of what it means to be metabolically inflexible?

Bottom line, with metabolic inflexibility (MI), when you eat, your blood sugar (aka glucose) goes up and stays elevated for longer than normal, resulting in continually high insulin levels, the hormone released by your pancreas, which makes you hold on to fat and creates a cascade of health ramifications.

With MI you are:

👉🏻not burning fat during times of fasting
👉🏻experiencing a continual hunger that results in a never-ending attachment to food (especially carbs and sugary foods)
👉🏻experiencing mood and energy challenges
👉🏻feeling weak or tired before or after eating
👉🏻needing to have coffee/caffeine to increase energy levels, especially mid-morning or mid-afternoon

With chronically high insulin levels, you are predisposed and primed for:

❌insulin resistance
😲diabetes
🥵high blood pressure
❤️heart disease
😳high cholesterol
😢cancer
🧠cognitive changes
🤷🏻‍♀️autoimmune disease
🌊a cascade of ever-increasing physical complications and higher risk for illness and disease

The upside is that you can restore metabolic flexibility (MF). If you are diligent, purposeful, and patient with your body, you can fix it!

Let us take the Five Steps to Increase Your Metabolic Flexibility, one step at a time.

Intermittent Fasting - we are talking about time-restricted eating (and drinking) anything other than water. Research now shows that the less exposure your body has to insulin, the greater the health benefit in reducing weight, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and more.

STEP #1
Start eating and drinking in a 12-hour window. So, if you start to eat and/or drink at 7 am, finish your last bite of food and those beverages you're sipping on by 7 pm. Gradually shrink that eating and drinking window to 10 hours.

🗝️The key that unlocks the first wealth is your metabolic health. Receiving the riches of a lifelong, well-functioning (and feeling) body-brain requires metabolic flexibility (MF).

🤔 Food for Thought
Is it your time to take control of your health so the first wealth doesn't elude you?

If your answer is yes give a 👍🏻 + we'd like to invite you to stay tuned in here for the next seven days where we will be sharing, what metabolic inflexibility (MI) looks like within your body + the Seven Steps to Increase your Metabolic Flexibility (MF).

"FOCUS MORE ON YOUR DESIRE THAN YOUR DOUBT, AND THE DREAM WILL TAKE CARE OF ITSELF."

Mark Twain

Fear is the malady. The fear of failure, fear of what others will think, the fear of NOT knowing what will happen next. I know I've felt them all, all at once.

Being vulnerable is so much easier to read, write, and post about when you're not the one in the arena, getting your ass kicked as you pursue the big goals that you hold most vital for yourself and those you care about.

As a woman who reached a crushing point along my professional path where I no longer had the necessary reserves and physical capacity to outmaneuver the myriad of hidden stressors coming at me while in pursuit of my life's work as an entrepreneur, wife, and mom, it is through

🌟the grace of God
🌟five years of healing work in functional medicine
🌟investigation
🌟education
🌟unique alliances with amazing humans that helped me restore my functional capacity, reverse a severe hormone deficiency and reinvent myself.

As I chart a new career path as a Board-Certified Holistic Health Practitioner being vulnerable, being known beyond my circle of safe relationships is part of the process to help more and more freedom-minded folks outsmart stress and restore a foundation of health with safer, sustainable, more effective natural solutions.

Our functional capacity, sustaining optimal metabolic health as we age, has to be the foundation for modern living if we aim to keep up the excellent work, so many achievement-oriented people do. That's why helping humans on their health journey is the most incredible work I can think of!

Thank you to for featuring me in this article and all who are helping me spread the message that better health (whatever your age) is closer than you think. All you need is someone to show you where to look and access to resources that help YOU succeed. Don’t be afraid to start again!

Good Friday, Friends!

Since my passion for being productive (aka fitting a lot into every day) has taken a front seat for most of my life, any kind of cooking that takes a lot of time to prepare, get on the table, and eat, is not my gig.

Couple that with the truth that my husband (who I adore 🥰) often has a differing view of what makes up "good" food, I'm on a mission to whip up as many whole food recipes that satisfy both our pallets and nourish us - body and brain.

I'm not sure how "sharable" my recipe card is but here goes! For those who have asked this is Wednesday night's Fish Taco + Creamy Habanero Sauce recipe. I will continue to share any that pass the taste test with my hubby. In this case, he ate three 🐟 🌮! Don't let him fool ya, at times he can be harder to feed well than the kids 😉.

👉🏻these tacos are easy and quick.

👉🏻the ingredients can be found at most grocery stores.

👉🏻the recipe represents multiple colors of the rainbow, meaning the nutrient profile is diverse.

👉🏻for those who are insulin resistant, you can opt-out on the tortilla, make a bowl with all the other fixins, and have a tasty dinner that is fantastic for balancing blood sugar and helping your body out of that insulin-resistant state.

👇🏻Let me know if you try them and how you like them by commenting below or sending me a PM!
