Happy LABOR Day! It’s truly such an honor to hold you through your labors. I am forever so endlessly proud of each and every one of you and the hard work you put in to meet your babies. I will never stop being in awe of women or the miracle of the birth of, not only a baby, but also a mom and a dad. 💜 Shout out to all the amazing labor & delivery nurses, birth assistants, midwives, and OBs! Teamwork makes the dream work.

August seemed to come and go in a wink, literally, as I spent most of the nights this month with three overnight cuddle buddies. As far as births go, I don’t often go to Baylor Dallas, just a few times a year, but I found myself there twice in August; both times with most of the same team. when the same delivery complication popped up for the second time in a handful of days, everyone was locked in and ready! Two sweet, big boys and three precious girls were welcomed into pretty amazing families this month! Three unmedicated hospital births, two sticky shoulders, and two redemptive births. Welcome babies! 💜

Cheers! If you know me, you know, I am not a coffee girl; diet Dr Pepper runs through these veins. This is the one and only drink that I get excited for from Starbucks. After a very long stretch of back to back birth and overnight newborn night nanny shifts, I needed a little treat. Who else is pretending like fall is just around the corner even though it’s been 110°.? 🥵🎃

What I’m PASSIONATE about as a lactation counselor & breastfeeding educator: 1. I don’t really care how you feed your baby. What I DO care about is that you have all the necessary tools to meet your goals! I will support and assist in whatever decision you make! 2. Hands off lactation support matters. Give a man a fish vs teach a man to fish. It does take longer; it is quicker if I physically latch your baby. But that’s not the goal. Learning to do it without me is the goal. Take all the time you need to “get it”, we can even phone an IBCLC friend, if necessary. 3. Bottle warmers are unnecessary. Not only unnecessary, but killing the pre- and pro-biotics in breastmilk and some formulas. While there’s some evidence that unalive probiotic strains are still beneficial — why would we do that on purpose?Unneeded. *I may be weirdly passionate about my hate for a bottle warmer and the bottle warmer to store bought probiotic pipeline* 😅

Did you know that 9 of the 10 most popular birthdays are in September and the other is in… July! It’s been a busy month! Two birth center water births, two unmedicated hospital births, and two sweet postpartum babes. Three of these babes weighed exactly 9lbs even - wild. They all have pretty amazing mamas and their dads are pretty great too 🩷🩵

One thing about me is that I LOVE a redemptive birth! who is coming to see me at the VBAC expo in September (as long as all my babies cooperate)

The final count for the week (unless someone does something crazy in the next couple hours 👀) was 3 births! Tied for the most births attended in a week since last April. My muscles are thankful that it was 3 and not 4. 💪😅 The “choose your birthworker” trend was going around sometime in the middle of the baby cluster but I’m late to the party, as usual

What a weekend! Two babies born in just over 24 hours on July 4th and July 5th. Welcome sweet babies! Out for a real meal (and fresh tortillas) and some time with my family and now I’m refreshed and ready for whatever this week has in store! Who’s next? I can’t wait to meet you!

I took a bit of a break from births in May to focus on postpartum support and catch up on birth classes, but it was back to raining babies in June! One planned c-section, one unplanned c-section with a great outcome because mama listened to her intuition, two redemptive births- one unmedicated in the hospital the other a very nearly unmedicated induction, and two water births. All such a blessing to witness 💜
