Seattle Wakeup Community

Seattle Wakeup Community Seattle WakeUp is a mindfulness community for young adults (18-35) practicing in the Plum Village Tradition of Thich Nhat Hahn.

Our society is overloaded with intolerance, discrimination, craving, anger and despair. There is stress, anxiety and frustration within us and around us, and acute pressure to succeed in our studies, work and social life. Each one of us has the power to understand why this has happened, and to transform the situation. Mindfulness practices help us to wake up to what is going on inside and around u

s, and give us the tools to make a difference, in our own lives and the lives of those around us and, ultimately, in our world. Mindfulness is a simple, scientifically proven way to bring our mind back to our body, to become aware of what is happening in our present experiences so we can live with happiness, joy and freedom. When we are mindful our minds are clear and at peace, and our hearts open and light. Wake Up is an active global community of young adults, aged 18-35, established by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh in 2008. We come together to practice mindfulness to take care of ourselves and help transform society. We follow the Five Mindfulness Trainings, which are ethical guidelines that offer concrete practices of true love and understanding, and a path towards a life in harmony with each other and the Earth. Please contact us to join our google group for latest update on meeting information.

Hey friends,

This is a good time to start settling into the end of summer with practice. I'll be leading a few periods of sitting meditation from 7pm - 8pm this Thursday, Aug 25, in the downstairs floor of Magnolia United Church of Christ.

"Sitting meditation is very healing. We can just be with whatever is within us, whether it is pain, anger, irritation, joy, love, or peace. We are with whatever is there without being carried away. We let it come, let it stay, then let it go." - TNH, Happiness, p9

Hope to see (or meet) you then and there,

- Noah Glusenkamp

Hey everyone!

We're getting together this Friday at 7pm at Dharma Gate (1910 24th Avenue South) for our monthly practice. We'll sit, do mindful movements and then have a vegan dinner, which will be provided. Plan to wrap up by 9pm.

We will also be meeting earlier at 2pm to attend the May day march for immigrant and worker rights. This is good chance to practice engaged/applied Buddhism together. Reach out to the mailing list for contact info: https://groups.google.com/forum/ #!forum/seattle-wake-up

Hope you can make it to start your weekend off with healthy practice.
