Chrissy TKR Warrior Knee Replacement Recovery Real knee replacement recovery, tips, and support from a revision TKR patient, yoga instructor, & mom

Knee replacement pain can be absolutely terrifying.

I know because before my first surgery, I watched video after video of people struggling through recovery. I saw stories about pain, setbacks, stiffness, and complications, and honestly, I was scared.

Now, after going through knee replacement recovery three different times—including a revision—I can say that the first recovery was by far the hardest, not just physically, but mentally.

Not because it was necessarily worse than the others, but because I didn’t know what to expect.

The list of things I wish I had known is LONG, but these are three of the biggest lessons I learned:

If you’re an athlete, parent, or high achiever, many of us want to push through everything. I certainly did. But I learned that successful TKR recovery isn’t about being the toughest person in the room—it’s about knowing when to rest, when to move, how to manage swelling, how to fuel your body, and how to protect your mental health throughout the process.

Having now been through this journey three times in one year, I needed to be reminded often that recovery is a process of learning, adapting, and giving yourself grace.

If you’re preparing for surgery or you’re in the middle of a difficult recovery right now, I hope this reminds you that you’re not alone. What you’re feeling is real, and so many of us have been there too.

What is one thing you wish someone had told you before your knee replacement? I’d love to hear it below. ❤️‍🩹🦵

How do you survive a full workday after TKR?

Because wow… going back to work has been an adjustment.😱

One thing I’ve learned is that being on my feet all day is completely different than doing PT or riding the bike for 30 minutes.

By the end of the day, my swelling definitely increases, my energy is gone, and my knee lets me know that it’s still very much recovering.

So I’ve been trying different things to help manage the pain and swelling before it gets out of control.

This little tip has honestly helped me a lot.

I know everyone’s recovery is different, but for me, being proactive instead of reactive has made a huge difference.

I still ride the bike in the morning, wear my compression sleeve, and try to stay ahead of the swelling as much as possible.

Because once my knee gets angry, it takes a while to calm it back down.

And I’ve learned that recovery isn’t just about getting through PT anymore—it’s about figuring out how to live real life while still healing.

So now I’m curious…

If you’re back at work, especially if you’re on your feet all day, what has helped you the most?

Did you go back part-time first?

What do you do to manage the swelling and pain during long days?

I’d love to hear your tips because I’m definitely still learning. 🤍

Not medical advice—just sharing what has worked for me.
