Decided to take a weekend trip to Rochester with my main squeeze. I’ve never been anywhere without my parents and I knew it would be a challenge, but Nate insisted we try. Everyone say thank you to Nate for getting me way out of my comfort zone.
We stayed at Comfort Suites in Henrietta. The room was more spacious than other hotels I’ve stayed at. The bathroom had a lip that made it very hard to get the hoyer lift over, but after Nate physically picked up the leg of the lift, it was pretty smooth. We met my local friends for dinner at Strangebird, which was delicious. Then it was time to get into bed.
So the hoyer lift did not fit under the bed until Nate lifted the mattress up a very tiny amount. It fit! Then we hit the box that many hotels have under their bed. We could not get any closer. We had to do what we had to do to get me on the bed, and that meant tipping the lift onto the bed, praying that Nate’s ankles could support the weight and not have the entire lift on top of me. This is very dangerous and I do not recommend it for anyone. Nate had to drag me up the bed so I could sleep. The next morning, he dragged me to the end of the bed and tipped the lift again and hooked me up. He tipped it upright and I was standing feet away from the bed. I got into my chair and we checked out.
We missed breakfast from the whole lift fiasco, so I suggested we go to the Mall at Greece Ridge (Nate wanted to try Wingstop). We didn’t know that it was under construction. We accidentally entered in the wing that had the least amount of shops open, so we took a detour to the other side… until I realized it lead straight to a curb. We then had to backtrack to where we originally entered and go outside to enter the building from another side. The Wingstop did not exist. We scouted the bathrooms to see if there was a single stall family restroom. There was not. I knew there had to be a Walmart Supercenter close by, and they had family bathrooms.
We entered the Walmart with the lift, got very little strange looks, peed and headed out. It was not that stressful, which gets me a little more excited about day trips.
We saw a laser show at the planetarium, ate Wingstop and traveled home.
I am still exhausted lol. I wouldn’t really say it was a relaxing trip, but it was a trip to start with. Next time, I need to research hotels more and get something more accessible. Or maybe bring my own bed? I don’t know.
Special thanks to Nate who never showed fear and made sure I would not die. 🙂↕️💜
