Gotu Kola is a phenomenal herb used globally very similar to lettuce or spinach as well as brewing a tea and is a great helper for focus and getting s**t done, like a Virgo.
Ruled by Mercury just as Virgo is, Gotu Kola is a calming nerve remedy, helping to slow down and focus the (over) active mind and pairs well with Calamus to give a nice clear picture without that overenergetic "buzz" that coffee and other stimulant herbs give.
With its astringent taste, this allows tissues to strengthen and tighten and is useful for relaxed tissues and muscles and is a great connective tissue remedy for the MusculoSkeletal System, remembering muscles are everywhere and brain muscles are just as vital to strengthen as body muscles are.
How it can be for both the brain and the body? Its actually in the ruling sign's energetic qualities. Being a Mutable Earth sign, Virgo is BOTH mind and body and how they bridge and balance together. In the Tarot, this card is Temperance, and you see that bridge with the person being on land and water with their feet while pouring the cups into each other.
Virgo season is the end of Summer, bringing in the fall season with Libra and so is involved with meticulous planning and plotting. We have done the 1st Big harvest of the year along with the regenerative plants and so now its organizing time. What went well during the year, what is edible and can be stored for the coming months and winter? What didn't go well, and needs to be discarded or composted for the next growing season?
In the physical body, this is seen in the organ of the Liver, as the liver is what everything we ingest goes through to get to their destination. Its like a shipping warehouse, it receives what we intake, purifies and cleanses, then redistribute where needed. Water soluble waste goes to the kidneys, minerals and nutrients go where they are needed to other organs. So too, do we need to go through a purification process but not in the "burning pits of hell" type nonsense. This is more of identifying who we are, what works for us, what doesn't and working towards being a better version of who we want to be. Virgo is labeled a Perfecionist sign and is not wrong but the idea of perfection has been corrupted. Its not about being flawless, its about knowing your flaws and weaknesses and striving to strengthen them. To overcome that mindset of needing everything in perfect order. That doesn't exist. Order and chaos are 2 sides of the same coin. The goal is to be balanced, to realize imperfection is perfect. Trial and error has always been at the root of Evolution and its how we grow.
