🇺🇸 Labor Day is a good reminder to take care of YOU, too! 💚

This long weekend, give yourself permission to slow down, rest and recharge. ☀️

🧠 Check in with your mental health
🚶 Get outside and move
📵 Take a break from the screen
❤️ Spend time with people you enjoy
😴 Get some rest

Our LiveWell staff will be doing a little recharging, too! Our office will be closed Monday for Labor Day, and we’ll be back Tuesday.

Have a safe and restful Labor Day weekend! 💚

🤝 Great things are happening across Southwest Kansas!

Yesterday, Callie, Beth and Lucy had the opportunity to join LHEAT partners from Seward, Grant, Ford and Finney Counties for a CDC grant site visit!

We loved getting the chance to share some of the great work happening in our communities to make the healthy choice the easy choice — from 🚶‍♀️ increasing opportunities for physical activity and 🥕 supporting healthy eating to 🤱 strengthening breastfeeding education and support.

One of the best parts? Hearing what our neighboring communities are doing and celebrating just how much can happen when Southwest Kansas works together! 💚

Thank you to our CDC and KU partners for taking the time to visit, listen and learn more about the work happening right here in our communities.

Garden City is creating a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) plan! Earlier this year, Garden City was awarded a planning and programming (P&P) grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation’s (KDOT) Safe Routes to School program. Over the next few months, we will be working with KDOT to create our new SRTS plan. The plan will include policy, program, and project recommendations to make walking, biking, and rolling to school safer and more enjoyable.
Here’s how you can help:
🚦 Complete the caregiver survey to let us know how your family currently travels to school and what would encourage you to walk or bike to school more: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/8929832/KDOT-SRTS-Caregiver-Survey-Fall-2026-Garden-City
🚸 Head to our interactive webmap to let us know where in town you think there are issues and what you would need to feel safer walking or biking: https://tooledesign.github.io/Garden_City_SRTS/
🗺️ Talk to us in person at our pop-up event on September 14 at the Horace J. Good Middle School volleyball games, starting at 3:30 p.m.
To learn more about SRTS and the P&P grant, visit https://saferoutes.ksdot.gov. If you have any specific questions about Garden City's plan, please reach out to Donna Gerstner at [email protected].

The Kansas Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program provides resources and guidance so Kansas K-12 students and families of all backgrounds and abilities can walk, bike, and roll to school and in their communities safely, comfortably, and enjoyably. 💜 September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month 💜

Today, we’re asking you to do two simple things that could make a difference when it matters most:

📱 1. Save 988 in your phone as a contact.
Hopefully you’ll never need it—but having it saved means it’s there if you do, and it’s easy to share with someone who might.

💬 2. Share the 988 contact with a friend or loved one.
A quick share puts this important resource directly into someone else’s phone, too.

988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline
📞 Call 988
💬 Text 988
Available 24/7.

It only takes a few seconds. Save it. Share it. Help spread the word. 💜

How is it already the end of August?! 🤯 It feels like National Night Out was just earlier this week!

We’re still smiling about another great National Night Out at East Garden Village! 💙🏘️

A HUGE thank you to all of the neighbors, community organizations, partners and volunteers who helped make the evening so much fun and so memorable for everyone who joined us.

National Night Out is always one of the highlights of our year, and we’re so grateful for the people who continue to show up, connect and help build a stronger community. 💙

Already looking forward to next year! 🎉
