Shirley came to us looking for hope.
She had recently been diagnosed with COPD, and her health was steadily declining. Even walking short distances had become difficult, and she felt discouraged about her future. Together, we developed a plan focused on supporting her body’s healing, helping her lose the 40 pounds she wanted to lose, and restoring her energy and quality of life.
We knew education would play a critical role in Shirley’s success. We started by helping her understand that every person’s body is unique and that the path to better health looks different for everyone. We implemented strategies to reduce stress and improve sleep quality, giving her body the best opportunity to heal and recover.
Next, we focused on addressing the inflammation that was contributing to her joint discomfort and limiting her daily activities. We evaluated her current eating habits and gradually replaced highly inflammatory foods with nutrient-dense foods that better supported her health goals. One of Shirley’s biggest discoveries was realizing she had been under-eating for much of her life. She was pleasantly surprised to learn that nourishing her body often meant eating more balanced, satisfying meals rather than restricting food.
Within the first two weeks, Shirley reported increased energy, improved sleep, and began seeing the scale move in the right direction. By week three, she noticed less overall discomfort and less tightness in her chest. As the weeks progressed, she found herself climbing stairs with greater ease and feeling more capable than she had in years. Most importantly, she told us that her sense of hope had returned.
By the end of her journey with us, Shirley had lost 40 pounds, developed a healthier relationship with food, and gained the confidence to move forward with her life. To celebrate her accomplishments, she booked a vacation for herself and her husband—a trip she once wasn’t sure she’d physically be able to enjoy.
And one more thing: Shirley was 70 years young when she accomplished all of this.
Shirley’s story is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to invest in your health. No matter your age or where you’re starting, positive change is possible when you have the right education, support, and tools.
