This popped up in my memories & I thought it was a good reminder. Seriously! Why is it the onus of the potential victim to prevent themselves from being r***d? The focus of our society should be on stopping the perpetrators.

Today I get to celebrate 28 Years of sobriety! It is a gift for sure. After almost successfully dying by su***de on January 15, 1995, the drugs and alcohol had cleared out of my system enough by the 17th for me to know that I could no longer live the way I had been. 28 years ago, I started on a journey of recovery. It has not always been easy. At times it’s been painfully hard. I’ve been sick, depressed, suicidal, in physical & emotional pain that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. But it’s also been beautiful! I have hope and choices and love and laughter. I have traveled, connected with people in ways I never could have imagined, started my own business, am writing a book, and have so many other blessing in my life. I am grateful beyond measure to God, my family, friends, support team, and even those I have briefly met along this 28 years of “bonus life”. If you or someone you care about is struggling with alcoholism or addiction, reach out. I’m always here to help the best I can. If not to me, please reach out to the other resources that are out there. There is beautiful hope. 💜💚🙏🏻☀️

These are the faces of life with trauma & all of the long term affects that go along with it. Just 24 hours apart. Last night I was feeling great, having fun with a good friend at a Cubs game, enjoying life. Today I have barely been able to get out of bed because the pain I have from fibromyalgia (a chronic pain condition often linked to severe childhood trauma) is so intense. I’m sharing this because it is my reality. It is beautiful, fun, joyful, painful, devastating, frustrating, unpredictable. I am grateful because I have been able to do a lot of hard work to get me to a place where the “good” days far outweigh the “bad” days. But they are both just under the surface of the other. This is my encouragement to have compassion & grace for others because you never know what is going on for them. And, be loving towards yourself 💜💚

I hate that this is the “better news” we have going on right now, but when times are this desperate, I guess we take what we can get. Ghislaine Maxwell received 20 years, and R. Kelly 30 years, both for s*x trafficking (including minors). Neither got enough time. There is not enough time for either of them to sit caged up. I’m hoping Ghislaine’s lenient sentence is because she gave up a bunch of names, and the prosecutors will prosecute every last one of them! I can’t explain R. Kelly’s lenient sentence, but hope he will get more time in Chicago to be served consecutively to his current sentence. I don’t have much hope if Kim Foxx is prosecuting him because she likes to let everyone off. But I still pray that there is some justice in this world.

A bit of progress, but SO MUCH MORE IS NEEDED! So far we have a British woman in jail for these heinous s*xual crimes against children, and a British Royal under scrutiny. But there is only a civil suit against him. When will other charges be brought against him? And what about the rich and powerful Americans involved? When will they be brought to justice?

Some more thoughts about the Ghislaine Maxwell trial…
1) It is one of, if not the most, important trials in recent US history because it calls to task many wealthy and powerful, who are often “above the law” for s*xually abusing children.
2) We all know this is happening, but very little is ever done about it.
3) Sexual abuse of children should be in the forefront of everyone’s minds until the depravity, the long term effects, and the sheer number of children this happens to on a daily basis are common knowledge, and we as a society say, “NO MORE!”
4) This trial should be covered by the media every day all day, as it does many other trials. I saw one CNN report say that the “media isn’t covering the Maxwell trial” claim is all conspiracy theory, etc. They said that there are hoards of media there, many filling overflow rooms, but explained that it’s not getting the same coverage as other infamous recent trials because cameras nor cell phones are allowed in Federal Courtrooms, and it’s a “nightmare” (one reporters actual word) to cover this trial, and there are only sketches available. GET CREATIVE for the love of humanity! Play a reel of the sketches & report every detail on the multi-daily news reports on every channel! If I can figure that out, the media sure can. They sensationalize the most unsensational things every day! Is it a media cover up? I don’t know. But is it being covered the way it should? ABSOLUTELY NOT!
5) The Independent pointed this out… don’t ever use this phrase! “The Ghislaine Maxwell trial has revived a meaningless term that needs to be abolished: “underage girls.” By definition, girls are children, and children are underage. The phrase implies that some “girls” are old enough to have s*x with adults who aren’t criminals.”
Let’s call on the media to cover this trial!

I won’t be surprised if she is found guilty, and she probably is. Those of us who have experienced childhood s*xual abuse know that women are perpetrators too. But does ANYONE ELSE SEE THE TRAGIC IRONY THAT THE ONLY PERSON BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ONE OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST S*X TRAFFICKING RINGS, IN WHICH SEVERAL WEALTHY MEN HAVE BEEN REPEATEDLY ACCUSED, IS A WOMAN??? I really pray the buck doesn’t stop here.
