Sunday June 28th Chloe had her first seizure. It lasted at least 50 minutes since I had found her. I went to get her out of her crib after a nap & found her in it (2:00). With the amount of drool on her & her mattress you could tell it was going on for a while but we’ll never know how long for sure.
We sat on the ground with her hoping it would stop. After 20 minutes we drove her to the emergency room. The Doctors finally got her to stop while we were there. She had a temperature of 102. It was concluded that the fever triggered her seizure. She came back negative for several viral infections so we’re not sure what caused the fever.
Afterwords, Chloe & I took the ambulance to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. About 5 minutes before getting there she had a silent seizure. They had to give her meds to get it to stop. She slept the rest of the day after that. They took an MRI of her brain which showed nothing new, thank God.
We got admitted to the room around 10:30. Once we got up there Chloe became alert again. She sat up on her own, was pulling on cords, looking around, responding to her name & started making cooing sounds again. She was able to breastfeed & went back to bed.
The next morning she was using her hands to grab melties & put them in her mouth. She was also eating apple sauce from the spoon. She even started smiling again.
We had a whole team of neurologists come to our room. The top neurologist just happened to be at PCH that day & we were lucky enough to meet him. Chloe was given a diagnosis of epilepsy due to the duration of the seizure. The underlying cause of the epilepsy is her tuberculosis sclerosis complex. Because of this there is a 99.99% chance that she will have another seizure. She is also at high risk of (SUDEP) Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. So she is now on daily medication & has a medication to stop a seizure. We left PCH on the third day with medication in hand.
It was a scary ordeal for us all but we are grateful our baby girl fully recovered and we have a great plan going forward to help treat and protect her. God is good and is watching over sweet Chloe!
