👅 Can you remember what a strawberry is supposed to taste like?

For many people who have experienced head and neck cancer, Long COVID, stroke, or a traumatic brain injury, the answer is no.

Food becomes bland. Favorite meals lose their flavor. Family dinners aren’t the same. Something most people take for granted suddenly disappears.

I’m looking for 10 volunteers who have experienced a loss or change in taste following:

• Head & Neck Cancer
• Long COVID
• Stroke
• Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Participants will help pilot a new taste rehabilitation program designed to help individuals reconnect with flavors, improve enjoyment of food, and enhance quality of life.

If you’ve ever said:
❌ “Everything tastes the same.”
❌ “Food has no flavor anymore.”
❌ “I only eat because I have to.”

Did you know dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) affects as many as 15 million Americans — and can impact people of all ages? From stroke survivors and people with Parkinson’s disease to head & neck cancer survivors and older adults, swallowing disorders are more common than most realize.

Dysphagia can lead to serious complications including malnutrition, dehydration, aspiration pneumonia, and reduced quality of life.

This Dysphagia Awareness Month, help us raise awareness by sharing this post, starting conversations, and helping others learn the signs and impact of swallowing disorders. 💙
