What is the coolest thing your identity can do for you?

Give you Energy!
And direct your Energy!

What an insight to have in the 200th (YES! 200th!) episode of Real Wellness.

If you see yourself as someone who eats brain-boosting meals, then your energy is going to go to make that happen.

If you see yourself as a “golfer” or “walker” or “tennis player” or “weight lifter”, then your energy is go there.

On a deeper level, if you see yourself as calm or stressed, generally happy or usually frustrated, then no matter what is going on in life, your energy level is going to follow that.

If you are not doing what you want, look first at your identity.
If your energy is not what you want, look first at your identity.

How do you want your brain to respond when hard things happen?

Do you want to think confused?
Or clear?

Do you want to recover slow?
Or fast?

Research shows regular movement (a.k.a. “exercise”) improves your brain’s resilience to pressure.

Which means you get to respond the way you want.

Sometimes the reason you’re exhausted is not WHAT you are doing.

But HOW you are doing it.

These are the 7 big habits I see that drain energy.

The good news?

They’re (fairly) simple to shift.

Hint:
If you do more than one, don’t try to change them all at once.
Pick one. Tackle it for a week and see the difference.

Now, I’m off to take care of #4, since I’ve been inside for several hours.

When you burn out, all of the impact you are creating?

What a joy to be with the change-makers in this conference!

Excited that I got to set them for lasting impact.

We spent the morning talking about eliminating burnout in their teams.

And the afternoon? All about them, as leaders, making sure their energy is 10x’d to reach their goals.

Your afternoon dip is not always because of your sleep

If you have been inside all day, your brain still thinks it’s night.
It thinks it is not time to be alert yet.

Have you ever noticed how much energy an unresolved conflict can steal?

A difficult conversation sits in the back of your mind.

You replay it.
Or you avoid it.

And the stress keeps building.

It was super insightful to sit down with leadership expert and retired Army Colonel Eric Lopez to talk about workplace wellness, leadership, and difficult conversations.

One story that stood out was his simple decision-making framework.

He shared how a previous boss always made decisions in 2 phases.

Phase 1: “Hey everybody. Tell me all your crazy ideas, challenge me, let’s get everything out there - even what feels like conflict .”

Phase 2: “I’m making the decision now. No more second-guessing. We’re moving forward together.”

Simple.
But it creates clarity, reduces tension, and helps people feel heard.

And it keeps you from avoiding difficult conversations. There’s a dedicated space and time for them.

Whether you’re a leader, business owner, or team member, unresolved issues often create more stress than the conversation itself.

My focus in the opening and closing Keynote is to help these leaders eliminate burnout - for themselves and their teams!

One of the biggest takeaways the participants have said is that trying to “do it ALL” is burning them out

They are getting empowered to decide what the priority is for the current season and focus there.

It’s not only the way to beat burnout.
It’s also the way to create real traction
