🌙 Local Facility/Resource Review 🌙
Ashen Moon goes and explores facilities so you don't have to!

Today, I visited *The Resource Center* in Greeley.
Famous for the "Did you kiss the wrong frog?" billboards and signs, they claim to be a facility that listens and provides options for your pregnancy and supporting your decision.

I walked inside and spoke with a representative for resource information as a local doula and found a lot of interesting information:

✨ On The Good Side ✨
1. They do offer free pregnancy tests, STI testing for women and men (for chlamydia (finger poke), gonorrhea, and syphilis (both by urine sample)), and a free "confirmation ultrasound"
2. They offer referrals for OBGYNs and other facilities for birth and continued care
3. They have an Earn and Learn program where parents can watch parenting videos they provide (in person and virtual) to receive free diapers and even a car seat (after 18 videos with an additional safety video)
4. They have resources about adoption services and steps

☕ Depending On You... ☕
1. They state openly they are a pro-life facility and they refer/partner with pro-life facilities and medical staff

❗ On The Bad Side ❗
1. They offer NO abortion resources or referrals (even if the pregnancy is ectopic and hazardous, which is what their ultrasounds check for), only a volunteer run grief support group for after the abortion
2. They "educate" those wanting an abortion with misinformation:

I was told:
A. The most common emotion after an abortion is grief ❌
✅ It's actually relief.

B. You are x11 times more likely to go to the ER if you complete the chemical abortion ❌
✅ The abortion pills mifepristone and misoprostol are completely safe if used correctly and in the right term.

C. Getting an abortion before 36 weeks puts you at an increased risk of breast cancer (because at 36 weeks is "when the cells change"). ❌
✅ Laughably false - Abortions do not cause cancer and there is no found link between the two

D. Getting a surgical abortion can cause "cervical incompetence" ❌
✅ Having more abortions can increase the chance of preterm births, yes. However, this also includes spontaneous abortions (miscarriages) and is not inherently caused by chemical or surgical abortions. Also, having a "compromised cervix" does not mean you can't have children, there are still options available.

Ashen Moon Doula Services includes birth and abortion support and is proudly secular to welcome all walks of life.

This facility has its uses for the right family, but this is not a facility I would trust to be unbiased, evidence based, and truly welcoming of all circumstances. Scientific articles are in the comments and you can see the facility for yourself:

Ashen Moon is complete support of vaccinations. I've walked beside the graves of children who would be alive today because of the advances of those vaccines.

Researchers at Stanford University modeled how many people could die or be disabled in 25 years if vaccines for polio, measles, rubella or diphtheria were no longer available.

❗ A reminder to always check ingredients❗
I came across a tea today described as "okay if pregnant", but included raspberry leaves and nettle.
Both are RISKY for those pregnant and I alerted management appropriately.

Still want tea? Go for mint (not wild mint!) or even black and green tea instead.
I recommend no more than 250mg a day of caffeine and ALWAYS check the label!

Do what brings you joy and enables that joy. ❤️

An old post that popped up on memories. But it is still so relevant as we get ready to wrap up mental health awareness month.

Mental health is a major component of maternal health.

Nature. A good diet. Sun. Exercise. Fresh air. These are all SO good for humans, including their mental health.

Talk therapy? Amazing and an evidence-based treatment for depression.

But you know what is also a treatment for depression? Anxiety? Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs)?

Medication.

Medication is an evidence-based treatment for mental health care.

✨️✨️✨️ "We each must do what we can to survive and thrive. NO SHAME."

If your life, time, location, and mental health allow for you to improve your mental health symptoms with just nature, we love that for you.

If that isn't what works for you, how amazing is it that we also have medication available to help people thrive AND save lives?

Mental health awareness month is about recognizing that mental health is not one size fits all and ending mental health stigma MUST include losing stigma around available treatments.

What does a week with Ashen Moon look like?

🌒 Volunteer with Banner Health
✨ Visited 2 families to give caregiver relief and help with funeral planning

🌓 Volunteer with UCHealth
✨ Held a sobbing mother in the ER with her son

🌕 Volunteer with Colorado Doula Project
✨ Drove a woman to and from the airport and made her feel welcome with a treat to The Sink (she signed a ceiling she may never see again)

🌖2 pregnancy losses occurred ✨

🌗 A call was made with a local cemetery for a volunteer event - stay tuned! ✨

🌘 1 birth is being prepared with full love, support, and knowledge ✨

✨ A lot can happen in one week for those around you - Always be Kind ✨
