Off to an incredible start with Cohort 7! We couldn’t be more excited to see the impact this amazing group of community health workers will bring to the field of lactation.

Our classes are already in full swing, packed with hands-on learning opportunities designed to build a strong foundation for clinically skilled providers.

They say the number seven represents completion, but we’re truly just getting started!

We look forward to watching this community grow and continuing to shout it loud: the NC A&T Human Lactation Pathway 2 program is deeply committed to providing excellence in education.

Here’s to a transformative journey ahead!

Behind every conference that looks polished, cohesive, intentional, and beautiful is someone making sure every visual detail tells the story before a single word is spoken. ✨

During UBBLS planning and ex*****on season, hundreds of graphics are created. From our logo and conference design theme to social media graphics, signage, speaker materials, sponsor recognition, and countless last-minute needs, there is always something that has to be designed, revised, resized, updated, or turned around quickly.

And through every step of that process, Andrea Williams, owner of Andrea Designs, has been there.

Her timeliness, attention to detail, creativity, patience, reliability, and willingness to move with us through every pivot are just a few of the reasons we will always uplift, appreciate, and recommend her work.

Andrea, thank you for the late nights, the early mornings, the quick turnaround times, the revisions, the grace, the understanding, and the care you put into bringing our vision to life.

Your work helps shape how UBBLS is seen, felt, and remembered. That contribution matters more than you may ever fully know.

We are deeply grateful for you and for the beauty you continue to create alongside us. 💛

Some people take pictures. Uriah Priest tells stories through a lens. 📸✨

At just 16 years old, Uriah is already developing a distinctive photographic style through Uriah Snapped, with an eye for movement, emotion, energy, and the moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed. His public work especially reflects a growing talent for capturing people in motion and preserving the feeling of a moment, not simply what it looked like.

For the 3rd Annual Uplifting Black and Brown Lactation Success Conference, we had the absolute privilege of experiencing that talent firsthand.

Uriah, son of our Project and Accreditations Coordinator, Leatrice Priest, spent his entire Day One with us, camera in hand, documenting the people, the conversations, the laughter, the learning, and the energy that made UBBLS what it was.

And when we say Uriah SNAPPED...
BABY. HE. SNAPPED. 🔥📸

What makes his contribution even more meaningful is the care behind it. After giving us his entire day, Uriah spent the weekend before returning to school editing photographs so we could receive and share them in a timely manner. At 16 years old, that level of commitment, professionalism, follow-through, and consideration deserves to be celebrated.

His talent speaks loudly for itself. His perspective is uniquely his, and there is something incredibly special about the way he sees people and translates what he sees into photographs.

Every image gave us another opportunity to experience UBBLS through his eyes.
Uriah, thank you for sharing your gift with us. Thank you for your time, your patience, your creativity, your dedication, and those hours you could have spent enjoying your final weekend before school.

Thank you for helping us preserve memories we will carry long after the conference is over.

We are incredibly proud to uplift a young creative who is already showing us what happens when talent meets discipline, opportunity, and a truly special eye. Keep shooting. Keep creating. Keep seeing the world the way only you can.

Thank you, Uriah, for beautifully capturing our essence and energy!

A BRIDGE FOR BRITTANY:
A CELEBRATION OF HEALING, HOPE, AND COMMUNITY ✨

During the Uplifting Black and Brown Lactation Success Conference last year, our community came together to uplift Brittany Norman, a local NICU Lactation Consultant and Class of 2023 program graduate, after her son, Nate, was diagnosed with a terminal illness and given only 12 to 18 months to live. Throughout an unimaginable year, Brittany remained steadfast. She supported Nate through treatments, travel, extended time away from work, and every uncertainty placed before their family. In response, the N.C. A&T Human Lactation Pathway 2 Program community and UBBLS attendees surrounded them with love. Donations continued long after the conference, including an anonymous gift of more than $1,000. Those donors were truly angels, providing support at moments when this family needed it most.

And now, we have something extraordinary to celebrate!

On July 29, 2026, NATE THE GREAT RANG THE BELL!

That beautiful sound signified the completion and success of his treatments. Nate received a clean bill of health and is preparing to return to school!

Today, we celebrate Nate’s life, strength, and healing. We honor Brittany’s unwavering devotion as a mother and the compassion she continues to extend to families in the NICU and beyond. We also offer our deepest gratitude to every person who donated, shared their story, prayed, encouraged, and helped carry this family through.

This is what community looks like. This is what love can do.

Although treatment has ended, the financial impact of this journey remains. Brittany is continuing to rebuild and recover as Nate returns to school, and the GoFundMe remains active for anyone who would like to contribute to their family’s next chapter.

Let’s continue building A Bridge for Brittany, this time toward restoration, stability, and a joyful future.

Day Two of the Uplifting Black and Brown Lactation Success Conference brought depth, honesty, and perspective in all the right ways. ✨

The day centered voices and conversations that deserve far more space, especially around fatherhood, men’s engagement, mental health, emotional wellness, and the many ways families experience care beyond the clinical setting.

Our speakers and panelists challenged us, affirmed us, made us laugh, made us think, and gave us new language for the work ahead.

What stood out most was the range of perspective in the room. Lived experience met research. Personal stories met professional expertise. Hard truths met practical solutions.

That is what makes UBBLS special.

We are deeply grateful to every speaker, panelist, sponsor, partner, and attendee who helped make Day Two so meaningful.

The conversations were necessary, the energy was powerful, and the impact will continue long after the conference ends. 💛

One of the most meaningful moments of the Uplifting Black and Brown Lactation Success Conference is taking time to honor the people who make this work possible. ✨

Our UBBLS Awards Ceremony allows us to pause and recognize the professionals, advocates, leaders, educators, community partners, and changemakers whose dedication continues to move lactation care, maternal health, and community support forward.

These awards are about more than accomplishments. They are about impact.
They honor the people who keep showing up, often quietly and consistently, to educate, advocate, mentor, serve, build, challenge systems, strengthen communities, and create better possibilities for families.

To each of our award recipients, congratulations. 💛

Thank you for the work you have done, the lives you have touched, the doors you have opened, and the example you continue to set for those coming behind you.

And to everyone who nominated someone, celebrated a colleague, cheered from the audience, or helped us create a moment worthy of honoring this work, thank you.

UBBLS is rooted in uplifting our community, and there is something powerful about giving people their flowers while they are here to receive them.

We celebrate you.
We appreciate you.
And we are deeply grateful for the work you continue to do.

Some people decorate a room. Others transform a space into an experience. ✨

For the 3rd Annual Uplifting Black and Brown Lactation Success Conference, Sugar & Co. Event Designs helped us do exactly that.

From concept to ex*****on, their work is rooted in creating luxurious, memorable experiences with intention, creativity, and meticulous attention to detail. Their team specializes in full-service event production and custom design, bringing visions to life through thoughtful coordination, beautiful installations, and those signature touches that make a space feel completely transformed.

And UBBLS felt the magic. 💛

Every carefully considered detail helped create an environment worthy of the people who entered it. A space where Black and Brown professionals, families, advocates, students, educators, and community leaders could gather, learn, connect, celebrate, and simply BE surrounded by beauty.

That matters to us.

Because creating UBBLS has never only been about what happens on the stage. It is also about how people feel when they walk through the doors. We want our community to enter a space that communicates: You were thought about. You were prepared for. You are worthy of beauty, excellence, care, and intention.
Sugar & Co. Event Designs helped us communicate that without saying a word.

To the entire Sugar & Co. team, THANK YOU for taking our vision and helping turn it into something our attendees could see, feel, experience, photograph, and remember.

Thank you for your creativity.
Thank you for your attention to every detail.
Thank you for the labor behind the beauty.
Thank you for helping make UBBLS feel as special as the community we created it for.

Your motto says, “We Create. You Celebrate.”

And because you created so beautifully, we absolutely got to celebrate. ✨💛

We are deeply grateful to have had Sugar & Co. Event Designs as part of the 3rd Annual Uplifting Black and Brown Lactation Success Conference.

After a full first day of learning, listening, reflecting, and pouring into the work, UBBLS attendees are always ready for a little connection, joy, and fellowship. And every year, BreastfeedDurham somehow finds a way to make that happen beautifully. ✨

This year, Breastfeed Durham sponsored and the N.C. Breastfeeding Coalition hosted our After Hours Mixer at the newly opened, locally owned Toast Bar & Grille, and the evening gave us exactly what we needed.

We ate well, shimmied our shoulders to the music, laughed, reconnected with friends we had not seen in far too long, rubbed elbows with fellow lactation professionals and community partners, and made brand-new connections that we hope will continue far beyond the conference.

The food was endless and delicious, the mocktails were beautifully crafted, and the atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and full of life.

There is something special about creating space not only to learn together, but to simply be together.

Breastfeed Durham and the N.C. Breastfeeding Coalition, thank you for continuing to understand that community-building is part of the work too. Thank you for planning such a thoughtful, memorable evening and for giving us space to connect beyond sessions, titles, and professional roles.

As always, you wowed us and exceeded expectations. 💛

There are some things that simply cannot happen without people who believe deeply enough to invest in the vision. 💛

To every sponsor who poured into the 3rd Annual Uplifting Black and Brown Lactation Success Conference, thank you.

Thank you for believing that families deserve to be seen, heard, supported, protected, and cared for with dignity.

Thank you for believing in the professionals, advocates, educators, birthworkers, researchers, students, and community leaders doing this work every single day.

Thank you for helping us create a space where knowledge could be shared, relationships could be strengthened, hard conversations could be held, and new possibilities could be imagined.

Your sponsorship was not simply financial support. It was an investment in community. An investment in education. An investment in equity. An investment in the people who are working to transform maternal and infant health outcomes for generations to come.

Because of your generosity, we were able to gather, learn, connect, celebrate, challenge one another, and continue building the bridges necessary to move this work forward.

This year’s theme, From Restoration to Revolution: Bridging Policy, Practice & Partnerships, reminded us that transformation does not happen alone. It happens when people and organizations decide that this work matters enough to show up, partner, share resources, and help carry the vision.

We are profoundly grateful for every contribution, every partnership, and every organization that helped make our third annual conference possible.
