Parents who feel they cannot take care of their newborn (up to 28 days old) may place it in the care of staff at any Safe Haven Site at Independence Health System without the fear of criminal prosecution, as long as the baby has not been harmed. Parents can leave their newborn with any hospital staff member and no further information is needed.

What started as a routine doctor's visit turned into a lifesaving discovery.

When Art Campbell began experiencing occasional lightheadedness and shortness of breath, he assumed it was something minor. But after listening carefully to his concerns, Dr. Robin Plank suspected there could be an underlying heart issue and ordered further testing.

Those tests revealed a rare heart tumor that required prompt surgery.

Today, Art is recovering well and returning to the activities he loves. He's grateful for the care he received and encourages others to trust their instincts when something doesn't feel right.
