some bits of my practice from this morning..

everytime I sit and edit these little clips I reflect on the evolution of my practice.
how it has shifted from a posture oriented focus to simply prioritizing a personal practice - however that may look on any given day.

maybe I needed to achieve said postures to realize that the only gratification I get from them is the hard work it took to get there. the posture itself changed nothing about me, or my experience.

therefore emphasizing the object of the practice - consistent commitment and dedication to oneself.

and then again, reinforcing the reason as to why I love this practice so dearly - I am forever humbled, forever learning.

The goal of this practice is an unwavering mind.
One that is rooted in its own truth, free from judgment and criticism.

I’m standing at a red light when suddenly the man in the car in front of me gets out of his car. He walks over to the string of Israeli flags that fell and reattaches it to the tree.
The spirit of the Israeli nation - perfectly encapsulated.
Before me stands a man that started his day sitting in a bomb shelter after very few hours of sleep from the last time he had to sit in one.
On his way home from what is likely a long day of work. Bills need to be paid, mouths fed.
Still has the will and honor to go out of his way in a small gesture of good will, to keep the spirit alive.
It’s something I can’t put into words or explain to someone who doesn’t understand.
The last (almost) two years are felt here, they’ve taken their toll on this country.
And while it’s tough, families are in pain, the country (very much like the string) is hanging by a thread - there is still enough will and honor to get back up again. Every single time.
My deep sense of love for Israel comes with a heavy heart, I find it very difficult to remove the emotional toll that comes with war, especially when it’s in my home.
When I’m away, it’s easier to force myself to disconnect and focus on myself.
But when I’m here, there is no way to disconnect, there is no way to ignore it.
So while I may be in pain - there is a sense of relief in knowing that the spirit of this nation is truly unbreakable.
It’s inspiring and beautiful, a true reflection of a people’s ability to live in the moment and let the moment be, simply because the next moment, is unknown.

As a self proclaimed perfectionist, it’s sometimes hard to see how much progress I’ve made in my asana practice because I know how much further I want it to go.
However, it’s important to take a moment to stop and smell the roses.
Sometimes when I look at playbacks of my practice it really is cool to see, standing split used to be a posture that I avoided at all costs. It was something that honestly felt impossible to me. And seeing this straight line is not only visually pleasing, but it’s reassuring that the work I put into my practice really pays off and shows in real time.

I had a conversation about this with a dear friend yesterday, she reminded me how important it is to appreciate how the efforts I’ve put in have brought me to where I am now, and even though I could sit here and not pick the wobbles and imperfections I can find - it’s even more important to be able to be like “hey this is freakin cool!”

So here are some shapes that I see myself in and am honestly just as surprised as you are that I can do them. 😅

There’s a new sweet bird of paradise class up on YouTube - if I had to practice it twice (cause I forgot to hit record the first time I thought I was filming) you surely can do it once 😉!

While it’s not an easy one, it is one that will help propel you in the direction of stronger and more open hips & hamstrings.

Try it on, the worst that can happen is you’ll sweat a little 😇

Core exercises to improve your inversions 🤌🏼

Inversions are a whole entire world and require a lot - shoulder strength & stability, core awareness and compression, as well as coordination and control to come into them.

I know that they can feel like a far away dream when you’re just starting out, but don’t lose hope! These five exercises will get you on the right track to become more aware of your core and how to engage it for inversions.

Try one, a couple, or all of them depending on what your body feels it can take on!

1️⃣Dead Bug - 10 reps per side
Extend opposing arm and leg with the inhale and pull them back in with the exhale. Go slow, use as much control as you can when doing this. Keep lower back glued to the mat.

2️⃣Single Leg Stretch - 10 reps per side
Reach same side arm & leg in opposite directions with the inhale, exhale to bring them back in. Keep shoulders and head lifted, keep lower back glued to mat.

3️⃣Double Leg Stretch - 5-10 reps
Extend both arms and legs in opposite directions with the inhale and exhale to bring them back in. Think low boat here, lower back glued while head and shoulders are lifted.

4️⃣Plank Shoulder Taps - 5-10 on each side
Keep your feet wide and hands narrow - this will help in keeping your hips stable. With as much control as possible, tap one hand to its opposite shoulder. Try to keep the rest of the body as still as you can!

5️⃣Bird Dog Plank - 3-5 reps on each side
This one’s tough! Take your time with it!
Keep feet wide and hands narrow to help with your balance and stability. Lift opposing arm and leg and hold for 3-5 seconds.

Once done, take a well deserved child’s pose and allow yourself to relax! 😌

Sometimes a yoga practice is time spent in rest with the primary focus being to breathe and reset the mind and body.
In the new class that has just been uploaded you can enjoy 15 mins of relaxation before bed.
For those days or weeks that are a little extra taxing - take the time to reset your nervous system and breathe.

I recommend turning the lights down low, playing your favorite playlist for relaxation, and putting your phone on DND until further notice.

Give these a try, relax, and unwind 🌬️✨🪐
