The NeuroFit Gym

The NeuroFit Gym The NeuroFit Gym is community based, catering to the needs of people with neurological disorders. Directed by licensed physical therapists.

We offer group classes, one on one exercise programs, independent workouts, and community support. Testimonials:
"Wow, where to begin. In the ten months that I have been a part of The NeuroFit Gym, I have participated in Delay the Disease and Rock Steady Boxing. Because of these programs, I have noticed great improvements. I am stronger and more confident in my ability to do the things I used to.

Rather than bending over and shuffling my feet, my posture has improved and I have a normal gait. My balance has improved, making it easier for me to walk up stairs. Additionally, I find more ease in performing daily activities such as putting on a belt and jacket with no assistance. None of this would be possible without the genuine care and dedication of Colleen and Amy. Their knowledge and ability in working with people with neurological diseases has greatly impacted my life, and I am truly thankful." ~Danny

"Rock Steady has helped my balance and I am more aware of my posture, which is so important to preventing falls. What I noticed in a relatively short time with boxing was how I regained the rhythm of walking. My affected right side had made my gait awkward and I have enjoyed walking normally for months now. I think that only a trained professional may be able to detect that I have Parkinson's Disease. That was not the case 9 months ago. I feel stronger and more confident in my abilities due to all of the targeted exercises we do in warm up, cool down, and hitting the bag (as hard as I can)!" ~Denise

"Rock Steady Boxing with the NeuroFit Gym was a pleasant and wonderful surprise. Boxing provides an excellent workout that strengthens your core muscles, your arms and your balance. I have noticed an improvement in my PD, my attitude, and my balance. The instructors (Amy and Colleen) are licensed physical therapists that design programs for each individual's capabilities that are challenging and fun. Also, there is a strong camaraderie with the other participants in the class. We are all facing the same challenges and the boxing improves not only our physical abilities, but enhances our attitude and social interactions. It has been a blessing in my life.” ~KH

I have a very amazing story to share…
I’m not going to name the people who had the emergency as that’s not my story to share, but what I want to share is the amazing community the Neurofit Gym has created!

We have a member R who has PD and has had some recent health issues limiting him physically and his wife is his only caregiver. Their children live in another state as a lot of children do. So this morning B had a slight health scare in that she had to go quickly to the ER. Well with recent health issues her husband can’t really be left alone. So B called upon “the wives” of other members of our gym who have PD. By the time I was able to call Pam (one of their wives) back after church she had already formed a plan to help R be safe and cared for. With the help of Pam, Bobbi, Marie, ( all 3 wives of men who have PD) and Colleen using her resources now R will have help and companionship until either their daughter gets in town or B is released from the hospital. BJ ( another wife) is going to be with B in the hospital so she in not alone. In just minutes four wives stepped up to help! These women have their own spouses to care for but didn’t bat an eye to help out another.

Neurological disorders are hard but caregiving for loved ones who suffer Neuro disorders is very hard too. These women (and many others) have become friends and support systems for one another. I give credit to the awesome Thursday night support group for this bond. My little heart is so proud and touched that these women met at the Neurofit Gym. I cannot thank them enough for stepping up and helping one another out.
This is why we created the Neurofit Gym! We may be a small entity but we are strong!

Thank you ladies!

This is just one of the many touching stories about the community created at the NFG.

( don’t worry B is ok and just waiting orders)

Our friend and gym member, Mike Land, is working with Ryan Reynolds, MoreToParkinson’s, and several others to promote awareness about symptoms of PD that you may not recognize as part of the disease- hallucinations and delusions. Thank you to all involved for spreading this important message! We invite you to visit NeuroFit and meet our amazing members and team of therapists!

We are looking for a PT or an OT to teach a couple boxing classes. Primary need right now is filling in on Fridays. We have classes for general neuro at 11 and for PD at 12. Person Needs to be comfortable with transfers and modifying activities for those who may need to sit, those who are hemiplegic and those with increased spasticity. The class will require you to design the hour class appropriate for clientele but we can teach you all the boxing tricks! The classes are very fun and help so many people in the community with neuro disorders.
