🔥 LET’S TALK ABOUT COOKING OILS… because the oil you use every day matters.
Seed oils like soybean, corn, sunflower, safflower, grapeseed and cottonseed oil are everywhere — especially in fast food, fried foods, chips, packaged snacks, sauces and highly processed foods.
You may have heard that seed oils automatically cause inflammation because they contain omega-6 fats. The science is actually a little more complicated than that. Human studies have not consistently shown that linoleic acid itself increases inflammatory markers. (PubMed)
BUT 👀 here’s where I still want you paying attention:
🔥 Oils repeatedly heated during deep frying can oxidize and degrade.
🍟 Seed oils are heavily represented in ultra-processed and fried foods — foods we already know we should be limiting.
⚖️ Your overall balance of whole foods, healthy fats, omega-3s and processed foods matters far more than obsessing over one ingredient.
So what do I personally love seeing people cook with?
🫒 Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Amazing for sautéing, roasting, dressings and everyday cooking. One of the most researched oils for cardiovascular and metabolic health.
🥑 Avocado Oil
Great neutral flavor and excellent for higher-temperature cooking.
🥥 Coconut Oil
Fine occasionally when the flavor works — but because it is high in saturated fat, I wouldn’t make it your primary everyday oil.
🧈 Butter or ghee
Perfect for flavor and occasional cooking, but again — think moderation rather than making saturated fats your only fat source.
And YES… you can cook with extra virgin olive oil. 🫒🔥 You do NOT have to reserve it only for salad dressing.
The goal isn’t to become afraid of food.
It’s to start replacing some of the fried, processed, packaged stuff with real food prepared with quality fats.
Your body doesn’t need perfection.
It needs better choices made consistently. 💚
✨ Eat more food that looks like food.
✨ Cook at home more often.
✨ Prioritize olive oil, avocado oil, nuts, seeds and omega-3 rich foods.
✨ Limit repeatedly fried and ultra-processed foods.
Little swaps add up. 🫶
