Did you hear? đź‘€
PCOS is now being referred to as PMOS — Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome — and many healthcare providers and advocates are calling this a huge step forward for women’s health. 🤍
Why does this matter? Because the new name better reflects what this condition actually is:
✨ not just an ovarian or fertility condition
✨ but a complex hormonal + metabolic disorder that can impact the entire body.
PMOS helps bring more awareness to the insulin resistance, inflammation, cardiovascular risks, mental health impacts, and metabolic concerns that so many women experience — even beyond irregular cycles or cysts.
And considering PCOS/PMOS affects an estimated 1 in 10 women, this shift in language has the potential to improve understanding, earlier diagnosis, research, and more comprehensive care.
Even more importantly, experts believe up to 70% of women living with the condition remain undiagnosed.
While the name may be evolving, the current diagnostic criteria and treatment approaches remain the same for now — but many see this as progress toward more accurate, whole-body recognition of women’s health conditions. 👏
At ✨ The Wellness Cove ✨ we believe women deserve care that looks at the full picture — hormones, metabolism, symptoms, lifestyle, and long-term wellness. Education and advocacy matter, and conversations like these are helping move women’s healthcare forward. 💕
