Unpopular opinion: Using AI to make your business/event flyers makes me not want to support your business🤒 Beyond the growing concerns around originality and authenticity, there’s also a real environmental cost tied to AI-generated content. Large-scale generative AI systems require enormous amounts of energy and water to operate, and as people working in environmental justice, climate, and community spaces, I think it’s important that we stay mindful about how and when we use these tools.
Honestly, for most flyers, social graphics, and event announcements, it’s often easier (and more community-centered) to use platforms like Canva or support a local graphic designer, communications consultant, or social media creative who already understands your audience and mission.
There’s value in human creativity, intentional storytelling, and investing back into the people doing this work locally.
AI can absolutely be useful in some contexts, but we don’t have to default to it for everything. Sometimes the more sustainable, thoughtful, and impactful option is simply collaborating with actual people. ‼️
And if you’re a small organization, community group, advocate, or organizer who needs help figuring out outreach materials, feel free to reach out. Happy to support where I can. 🤝
