June is PTSD Awareness Month 💚

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. While many people associate PTSD with military service, it can also impact survivors of accidents, violence, abuse, natural disasters, loss, or other deeply stressful experiences.

PTSD is not a sign of weakness — and healing is possible. Raising awareness helps reduce stigma, encourages compassion, and reminds people they are not alone.

This month, we encourage our community to:
• Learn about the signs and symptoms of PTSD
• Check in with loved ones
• Practice patience and empathy
• Support conversations around mental health

Everyone deserves understanding, support, and hope. 💚

🌍 World Environment Day | June 5 🌱

Today, Outer Cape Health Services joins communities around the globe in recognizing World Environment Day, a United Nations-led observance that highlights the urgent need to protect our planet.
Our environment and our health are deeply connected. Clean air, safe water, and healthy ecosystems are essential to the well-being of our patients, families, and neighbors here in the 10 outermost towns of Cape Cod.

From rising temperatures to coastal changes, environmental challenges directly impact public health—including respiratory conditions, heat-related illness, and access to vital resources.
On this World Environment Day, we are reminded that caring for our environment is also caring for each other. Every action—big or small—helps create a healthier, more resilient community.

💚 Let’s work together to protect the place we call home—for today and for future generations.

🌈 Happy Pride Month from Outer Cape Health Services 🌈
At Outer Cape Health Services, Pride Month is a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the strength, resilience, and vibrancy of the LGBTQ+ community—an essential part of the Outer Cape we are proud to serve every day.

As a federally qualified health center, our mission is simple and unwavering: to provide compassionate, high-quality care to everyone in our community, regardless of who they are or who they love. We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where every patient feels seen, respected, and safe.

We also recognize that this moment brings both celebration and concern. Across the country, many organizations serving LGBTQ+ individuals are navigating evolving challenges and pressures. These realities can impact access to care and support—especially in rural communities like ours.

That’s why our commitment matters more than ever.
Outer Cape Health Services remains dedicated to ensuring that LGBTQ+ patients and families continue to have access to affirming, comprehensive healthcare close to home. Your health, dignity, and well-being are at the heart of everything we do.

This Pride Month—and every month—we stand with our community. 💜

🌊 Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month🌊

Here on the Cape, we’re lucky to call one of the country’s most beautiful and welcoming places home—especially for those choosing to “age in place.” With its coastal charm, strong sense of community, and long-standing healthcare resources, the Outer and Lower Cape continues to be a destination people return to for a lifetime.

As our community grows older—often called the “Silver Tsunami”—it’s more important than ever to support brain health and overall well-being.

While aging is a natural part of life, there are simple, everyday ways we can all help protect our cognitive health:

🧠 Stay physically active – Even gentle movement like walking the beach or gardening can make a difference.
👥 Stay socially connected – Time with friends, neighbors, and community groups helps keep minds engaged and spirits lifted.
🥗 Nourish your body and brain – Balanced meals and proper hydration support overall health.
📚 Keep learning and engaging – Reading, puzzles, and trying new activities can help keep your mind sharp.

Together, we can help ensure that the Outer Cape remains not just a place to live—but a place to thrive at every stage of life. 💙

June is Men’s Health Month—a reminder that taking care of your health can start with small steps:

• Taking a walk
• Checking in on your stress
• Talking openly with a friend
• Getting a good night’s sleep

Many men put their health last. This month is about putting it back on the list—one simple step at a time.

💚 Your health matters, every day—not just when something feels wrong.

🏡 Help Support Local Healthcare on the Outer Cape 🩺

Outer Cape Health Services is committed to caring for our community—but we’re facing a growing challenge: housing for our clinical and administrative staff.

If we want to maintain strong, accessible healthcare here on the Outer Cape, we need your help.

There are meaningful ways you can make a difference:

✨ Offer a rental
Do you have a short- or long-term rental available? Renting at a reasonable rate to a healthcare worker can directly support patient care in our region.

🏖️ Use your off-season home for good
If your property sits empty in the off-season, consider renting it to an OCHS employee who serves our community year-round.

💙 Leave a lasting legacy
You can even bequeath your home to OCHS, helping us recruit and retain clinicians and ensure healthcare access for future generations.

When healthcare workers can live here, they can care for all of us.
If the community wants healthcare, we can come together to support it.

📩 Message us or visit https://www.outercape.org/giving/ways-to-give/ if you’re interested in helping.

Thank you for being part of the solution.

Outer Cape Health Service’ Provincetown Clinic and Provincetown Pharmacy will be open 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM on May 25.All other locations will be closed in observance of Memorial Day

☀️ Did you remember sunscreen yesterday? Let’s make it a daily habit.

Even though National Sunscreen Day was May 27, the message matters every day—especially as we head into sunny weekends and beach days here on the Cape. 🌊

💛 A quick reminder:
✔️ Use SPF 30+ (or higher)
✔️ Reapply every 2 hours (or after swimming)
✔️ Don’t forget your ears, neck & tops of feet
✔️ Yes—even on cloudy days!

Skin protection isn’t just about avoiding sunburn—it’s about reducing long-term damage and lowering skin cancer risk.

✨ Small daily habits = big long-term health benefits

☀️ Outer Cape neighbors—tick season is here!
From walks on local trails to time spent in your yard, ticks are active across the Outer Cape.
✅ A quick tick check after being outdoors can help prevent bigger problems later on.
🔍 Found a tick? Stay calm and act quickly:
• Use fine‑tipped tweezers to gently remove it
• Clean the area with soap and water
• Watch for any rash, fever, or unusual symptoms in the days that follow
Taking a few simple steps can go a long way toward staying healthy this season. 🌿

🌿💙 National Senior Health & Fitness Day – May 27 💙🌿
At Outer Cape Health Services, we celebrate healthy aging and the many ways seniors in our community stay active, engaged, and thriving.
Today is National Senior Health & Fitness Day, a perfect reminder that small, everyday movements can make a big difference. Whether it’s a walk along the Cape, gentle stretching, gardening, or connecting with friends—staying active supports both physical and mental well-being.
💪 Benefits of staying active as we age:
• Improved balance and mobility
• Stronger heart and bones
• Better mood and reduced stress
• Greater independence and quality of life
We’re inspired every day by the resilience and vitality of older adults across the Outer Cape. Let’s take today to celebrate those healthy habits—and maybe add one more step, stretch, or smile to the day.
👟 However you move, it matters.

💚🧠 World Schizophrenia Awareness Day | May 24 🧠💚

Today, we stand in support of individuals living with schizophrenia and work to break down the stigma that too often surrounds mental health conditions.

At Outer Cape Health Services, we believe that understanding, compassion, and access to care are essential. Schizophrenia is a complex medical condition—not a personal failing—and with the right support, treatment, and community, individuals can lead meaningful and fulfilling lives.

World Schizophrenia Awareness Day is an opportunity to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and encourage open conversations about mental health. By learning more and showing empathy, we can help create a community where everyone feels seen, supported, and respected.

💙 You are not alone. Support, treatment, and hope make a difference—every day.
