📅 End of Month

As August comes to a close, take a moment to celebrate every step toward greater independence.

Progress doesn’t always happen in giant leaps.
Sometimes it’s:
• Walking more confidently
• Dressing with less effort
• Cooking a favorite meal again
• Feeling safer at home

Every victory matters.

Thank you for trusting Unbound OT to help remove barriers and support meaningful living.

🍁 Preparing Your Home for Fall

As the seasons change, so do home safety needs.

Take a few minutes to:
🍂 Check outdoor walkways for uneven surfaces.
🍂 Replace burned-out light bulbs.
🍂 Organize frequently used items within easy reach.
🍂 Make sure entryways are well lit as the days get shorter.

A safer home starts with small, intentional changes.

🐾 Service Animal Awareness 🐾

Service animals do more than provide companionship—they can be essential partners in independence, safety, and daily living.

A service animal is individually trained to perform specific tasks for a person with a disability, such as:
• Retrieving items
• Assisting with balance and mobility
• Alerting to medical conditions
• Opening doors
• Providing support during daily activities

It’s important to remember that service animals are working when they are in public. The best way to support a service animal team is to:
✔️ Give them space
✔️ Avoid petting or distracting the animal
✔️ Speak to the person, not the service animal
✔️ Respect that the animal is performing an important job

At Unbound OT, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to participate fully in their home and community. Accessibility includes understanding and respecting the tools and supports that help people live independently—including service animals.

Together, we can help create a more inclusive and accessible community for everyone. 💙

👵 National Senior Citizens Day

Today we celebrate the wisdom, resilience, and contributions of older adults.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to age safely, independently, and with dignity.

Occupational therapy supports older adults through:
• Home safety assessments
• Fall prevention
• Adaptive equipment
• Energy conservation
• Caregiver education

Helping people stay where they want to be—at home.

🐾 Service Dog Awareness Month 🐾

Service dogs provide much more than companionship—they are highly trained partners who help individuals live more safely, independently, and confidently.

Depending on a person’s needs, a service dog may assist with:
✔ Mobility and balance support
✔ Retrieving dropped items
✔ Opening doors
✔ Alerting to medical conditions
✔ Assisting with daily activities
✔ Providing support during community participation

At Unbound OT, we understand that independence looks different for everyone. Service animals can be an important part of a person’s support system, helping them participate in meaningful activities at home, work, school, and in the community.

This Service Dog Awareness Month, let’s celebrate these incredible working animals and the individuals whose lives they help empower every day.

🐕 Independence comes in many forms—and sometimes it has four paws.
