What is coaching really about? šŸ¤”

One of the biggest misconceptions about coaching is that it's about having someone tell you what to do.

What are your values?

A lot of the work I do with clients involves helping them identify and reconnect with their values through tangible exercises and deeper self-reflection.

🚫 Not surface-level goals.

🚫 Not what they think they ā€œshouldā€ value.

Their actual core values.

Because a lot of emotional distress comes from living disconnected from what genuinely matters to us.

People often think they’re struggling because they ā€œlack motivationā€ or ā€œneed more discipline,ā€ but many times they’re emotionally exhausted because their life, habits, relationships or routines are out of alignment with their values.

Values also act as a compass 🧭

They help guide decisions, create motivation, strengthen boundaries and give people a clearer sense of direction when life feels overwhelming or stagnant.

You don’t have to have everything figured out...but understanding what truly matters to you can change the way you move through life.

No one sustains growth for very long by hating themselves through it.

One of the many things I've learned through behavioral coaching is that people are much harder on themselves than they need to be. Part of what keeps them feeling stuck and in a negative cycle šŸ”‚

Most people already know what they ā€œshouldā€ be doing. The harder part is understanding what keeps getting in the way without judgements;
stress, nervous system overload, coping patterns, burnout, beliefs, habits, environment, emotional triggers… all of it interacts.

Real behavior change doesn’t come from shame or all-or-nothing thinking. It comes from self-awareness, consistency, support and learning how to work with yourself instead of constantly fighting yourself!

One of the most rewarding parts of this work is watching people finally understand themselves differently in order to make the necessary changes they want in their life permanent!

Reminder:
You can’t build a healthy, sustainable life from a place of constantly tearing yourself down.

The shift is perception šŸ§ šŸ’

I don’t work out because I have to....
I work out because I get to.

Moving my body has become less about forcing myself and more about caring for myself.
Especially knowing how important it is for my health, it changed the way I show up for myself.

The body follows where the mind leads!

Your mindset becomes the lens you live through
and the same habit can feel like punishment or gratitude depending on which lens you choose šŸ‘“

Running just creates distance… not change.

You can change a lot on the outside, but real change starts within.
Healing asks for you to face yourself with honesty. Self-awareness, self-reflection, and the courage to do the inner work.

You can’t run from yourself… at least not for long.
Eventually, you’ll have to face yourself.

And it’s uncomfortable when you do.
There’s nothing else to blame, no excuses to distract you… just you, being honest about what’s real.

Awareness is a powerful start, but it’s not enough on its own.
You can’t just think your way into being different.

The patterns you’re trying to change have been wired in over time. You don’t just decide to be different and suddenly it sticks.

šŸ‘Øā€šŸ« šŸ‘©ā€šŸ« It takes support.

šŸ“ It takes using new tools and skills.

šŸ’• It takes self-compassion and self-forgiveness.

šŸ’ It takes doing things differently and being intentional.

If you allow yourself to actually work through it, that’s when things start to change.

Slowly, you start responding differently to the same things that used to keep you stuck.

And over time, you stop getting in your own way.
You become a healthier, more grounded version of yourself!
Most importantly, you stop sabotaging your life.

That’s when life starts to feel differentšŸ”„
in a good way…
A version of yourself that you don’t want to run from anymore.

ā€œUntil you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.ā€ā€” Carl Jung

Gratitude moment...

I try to be consistent with writing down what I’m grateful for in the evenings.
And tonight, this felt like one of those moments worth sitting with.

For those who don’t know, in addition to my private practice, I work part-time as a behavioral mental coach with kids and young adults.
Just today, I had two kiddos (7 and 12) tell me they’ve never opened up to anyone the way they have with me.
I hear this from teens sometimes… but hearing it from the younger ones felt especially meaningful.

Many kids are navigating more than we often see on the surface… and having a safe place to go matters.

Trust is a big deal.

When someone trusts you (especially a child) you never want to take that for granted or break that.

It’s such an honor and something I never take lightly šŸ¤

Something to think about...

Consuming content isn't working on yourself.

When we see patterns we want to change,
we don’t always choose growth.

We choose what feels comfortable and agrees with us.
Something that confirms our perspective or defends our position.

And social media will reinforce that šŸ¦„āœØļø

Your algorithm will show you more of what supports your current views and may often lead you astray from what you initially wanted to change.

It feels good.

It feels validating.

But it’s not doing the work.

Let's be real šŸ‘‰ you probably already have people in your life; friends and family who agree with you and support you. Regardless if it actually helps you grow.

And growth doesn’t come from more ā€œyes men"

šŸ”„ It comes from being challenged.

šŸ”„From being willing to look at your patterns honestly.

šŸ”„ From doing the deeper work!

The kind that actually rewires how you think, respond and show up!

Consuming content won’t do that unfortunately.

It can keep you comfortable and even keep you stuck.

Genuine growth requires responsibility and action.

And that takes courage 🦁

When you’re ready for that kind of work, I’m here for you šŸ’•

Self-care vs Selfishness

There are also a lot of toxic messages out there about what self-care really is… and what it isn’t.

People think they’re being selfish when they’re actually practicing self-care

Or they call something ā€œself-careā€ when it’s really just self-seeking.

Confusing right?🫤

Let’s be clear... those are not the same.

ā¤ļø Self-care is nurturing your well-being so you can show up better for yourself and others.

Self-care is sustainable.

It’s aware.

It's considerate.

It creates a win-win!

It builds connection.

It's loving.

🤳 Selfishness is prioritizing your needs at the expense of others, without regard for the impact.

Selfishness is often one-sided and focused on self-gain without considering the cost to others.

It’s typically short-term gain.

It's reactive.

It lacks empathy.

It leaves damage in its wake.

Even disguised as self-protection (not the healthiest approach).

You don’t have to harm others to take care of yourself.

Know the difference so you can recognize which path you’re on.

At the end of the day, one path leads to growth 🌱
Like tending to a garden that you’re nurturing, watering, and creating something that can thrive over time.

The other?
It neglects the garden…
and eventually, things start to witheršŸ„€
