💃❤️ We can’t wait to kick off Mothers on the Move (MOM) this week! 🎉

After months of planning, conversations, and incredible community support, our very first group of moms and their dance partners will come together this Thursday, October 15, in Hershey!

What started as a simple idea—creating a space where moms can take time for themselves, connect with others, and enjoy the benefits of dance and movement—is finally becoming a reality! ❤️

We are so grateful to everyone who helped us get to this point! A huge thank you to our wonderful community dance instructors, local ballrooms and dance studios, businesses, and dance communities who have generously supported this initiative. And to our families, friends, colleagues, and everyone who helped spread the word, shared our posts, made introductions, offered encouragement, or simply believed in this idea—THANK YOU! ❤️

This program is truly a community effort, built with the community, not just for the community.

We are excited to welcome our first group of moms, make new friendships, share plenty of laughter, and, of course, DANCE! 💃🕺

This is just the beginning! We hope Mothers on the Move will continue to grow and bring more opportunities for moms and families in our community.

Stay tuned for updates from our first group! ❤️

Five ladies joined Jonathan Kopatz at noon today to learn to lead and follow! Everyone excited to learn something new. Learning to lead really helps being a better follower in ballroom dancing 💃 🕺
Today’s lesson was Rumba.

Then the group switched to just enjoying some dancing to Jon’s playlist.

Join this group next Friday, same time, same place for 90 minutes of fun and learning!

We shouldn’t wait for Mother’s Day to remind moms that they are special... 💙

Moms spend so much of themselves caring for everyone else. They deserve opportunities throughout the year to feel supported, connected, healthy, and cared for.

That’s why the dance communities, friends, and local businesses across Hershey, Harrisburg, and surrounding areas are coming together to give back with a special gift for moms of young children (approximately 6 months to 4 years old): the gift of dance, connection, and support for mental, emotional, and physical well-being. 💃

Motherhood can be beautiful — and it can also be exhausting, isolating, overwhelming, and relentless.

This recent CNN coverage on maternal mental health really stayed with me. As much attention as we give to the new baby, we often do not give enough attention to the mother.

And there are parts of early motherhood that cut across so many differences between us: lack of sleep, a body and life that have changed, constant responsibility, less time for yourself, changing relationships, loneliness, and sometimes the feeling that everyone is asking, “How is the baby?” while very few people ask, “How are YOU?”

This is one of the reasons we created Mothers on the Move (MOM).

MOM is not a treatment program. It is a community program built around something much simpler: giving moms a reason and an opportunity to get out of the house, move, laugh, learn something new, connect with other adults, and have a little time that belongs to them.

Through partnered dance, friendship, and community support, we want moms to remember that caring for themselves is not separate from caring for their families.

And because we know that telling a busy mom to “take time for yourself” is easy while actually making that possible is hard, we tried to remove as many barriers as we could.

💙 We still have a few spots left in our upcoming MOM group, starting October 15.

The program runs for about 6 months and is fully funded for participating families, including:

💃 Group dance lessons
🕺 Private dance lessons
🎉 Social dance events
🏋️ A full 6-month gym membership
👶 Childcare support

Sometimes support starts with something very small: one hour out of the house. A conversation. A new friend. Music. Movement. Laughter. Feeling like yourself again.

If you are a mom of a young child — or know someone who might benefit from this — please share this with her. Sometimes the hardest part is simply giving ourselves permission to say, “Maybe I should do something for me too.”

Recent conversations about maternal mental health have sparked a moment of reckoning with a system experts say has long neglected mothers in need.
