A patient came back to us yesterday after being gone for about a year.

When her family left, the reasoning made perfect sense: they had insurance now, so they figured they could save some money by using their insurance for primary care instead of paying a monthly membership.

A year later, they re-enrolled.

And what she told me stuck with me.

By the time they added up office visit copays, urgent visits, telemedicine charges, and all the other little costs that accumulated throughout the year, they realized they had actually spent MORE than they would have if they had simply stayed members with us.

But the money wasn’t even the biggest difference.

Appointments were harder to get.

They waited longer.

Visits felt rushed.

They couldn’t simply reach out to their doctor with a question and have a conversation. Sometimes even sending a question through the portal turned into a billed telemedicine visit.

Her conclusion was basically: we paid more money for a much worse experience.

And that really gets to the heart of why we built Hitchcock Medical Group the way we did.

Direct Primary Care isn’t just about removing insurance from the primary care visit. It’s about creating a completely different relationship between patients and their medical team.

You can actually get an appointment when you need one.

You have time with your doctor.

You can call, text, or message us when you have a question.

And you don’t have to wonder whether every interaction is going to generate another bill.

Health insurance is incredibly important for the big things — hospitalizations, surgery, cancer treatment, major emergencies.

For years, you’ve known us as Hitchcock Family Medicine.

That name made sense when we were primarily a direct primary care practice. But somewhere along the way, we became something more.

We built imaging because patients shouldn’t have to wait weeks—or spend thousands of dollars—to get an answer.

We built a pharmacy because getting the right treatment shouldn’t require another stop, another bill, and another layer of complexity.

We built longer visits, same-day access, transparent pricing, and a team that stays involved even when your care takes you outside our walls.

And we’re continuing to build.

So Hitchcock Family Medicine is becoming Hitchcock Medical Group.

The name is changing. What we believe is not.

We believe healthcare should feel personal.

We believe your physician should know you.

We believe prices should be clear.

We believe care should be coordinated instead of fragmented.

And we believe that when something happens, you should have someone you trust to call first.

Sometimes we’ll take care of it ourselves. Sometimes we’ll get imaging that same day. Sometimes we’ll help you find the right specialist, medication, test, or next step.

Today was one of those days that showed exactly what we mean by Hitchcock Medical Group.

A very sick kiddo came in needing help. What started as an evaluation outside quickly became something more serious. Our nursing team recognized it immediately, brought him in, started working on him, and texted me.

Within minutes, we had the whole team coming to bear on the problem.

My nurses were all helping care for him. I was evaluating and treating him. Our X-ray tech was getting the imaging we needed. Our pharmacist was involved making sure we had the medications he needed. Everyone was communicating. Everyone knew the plan. Everyone was focused on one thing: taking care of this kid.

And we could do all of it right here.

Primary care. Nursing. Imaging. Pharmacy.

No bouncing the family from one disconnected place to another. No starting over with a new team at every step.

In a more fragmented system, a child this sick could very easily have ended up in the emergency department simply because that is where all of those resources finally come together.

Today, they came together here.

That is why we have spent years building these pieces around our patients. Not as separate businesses that happen to share a name, but as one healthcare team that can work together when someone really needs us.

Today, that meant evaluating him, treating him, getting the imaging we needed, getting his medications, watching him closely, and ultimately keeping him out of the ER.

That is Hitchcock Medical Group.

Same Hitchcock. Bigger picture.

If you’ve followed this page for a while, you may notice something different at the top: Hitchcock Family Medicine has become the Facebook home of Hitchcock Medical Group.

First, for our Family Medicine members: Hitchcock Family Medicine isn’t going anywhere. It is still our Direct Primary Care practice, with the same relationship-based model, physicians, nurses, and care you’ve come to know. Nothing about your membership is changing because of this page rebrand.

What’s changed is that Hitchcock has grown.

Today, Hitchcock Medical Group brings together:

• Hitchcock Family Medicine — relationship-based Direct Primary Care for adults and children
• Hitchcock Direct Imaging — transparent, affordable CT, X-ray, and ultrasound
• Hitchcock Family Pharmacy — straightforward cash pricing on prescriptions and convenient pickup
• Specialty care, including our growing cervical dysplasia program, Beyond the LEEP

And increasingly, those aren’t separate things.

That’s really the point.

We didn’t set out to build a collection of disconnected healthcare businesses. We built them because healthcare works better when the pieces actually work together.

When your physician can evaluate a problem, help arrange imaging, see the result, coordinate the next step, and help you get the medication you need—without sending you through a maze of disconnected offices—healthcare becomes a lot simpler.

That’s what we’re trying to build at Hitchcock.

You also do not have to be a Family Medicine member to use every Hitchcock service. Our imaging center, pharmacy, and specialty services can be entry points into Hitchcock in their own right.

So this page will still have plenty of the Family Medicine stories and education you’ve always seen here. But you’ll also start seeing more about imaging, medications, prevention, specialty care, and the other ways we’re trying to make healthcare work better.
