In this video, Swanson is learning to walk calmly on a loose leash past a barking dog. His owners have stated he will often lunge toward dogs while on walks, and he’s a BIG boy, so I’m giving him some exposure to help his confidence and manners. He’s a pretty sensitive guy, so a big part of his training is to mitigate his insecurities. To do that I:

• Put him in situations that will both challenge him and give him success.
• Establish boundaries ahead of time so he knows what good behavior is before we get into potentially stressful situations.
• Watch his body language and praise him when he shifts his focus away from the distraction.
• Correct him verbally or with the leash if he gets too hyper-fixated.

When he’s walking on a leash, his only job is to walk nicely next to his handler until they release him, no matter the distraction.

✨ Aziz ✨ is an 8 year old 14.2hh registered Arabian gelding looking for his perfect match.

He is extremely friendly and in your pocket. He’s easy to catch and stands nicely for the farrier and vet. He is under saddle and rides English and western and has mostly done arena work for the last year. He’d be good on the trails with more exposure, and could even end up as a nice endurance mount. He is smart, curious, and energetic, but he will be testy with new people and needs a handler who can show him consistent boundaries.

His owner has had him for a year and intended him to be her trail partner, but he needs a more confident owner and more time than she is able to give him right now. He is best suited for a confident intermediate rider who likes a little ✨ personality ✨

I’m three weeks postpartum and I’ve been itching to get back into the saddle. Today was the day and it went great! Since I was riding my whole pregnancy, I don’t feel like I’ve lost much fitness. But I’m still taking it slow and working back up to where I was pre-pregnancy. Gotta get prepped for starting a few youngsters under saddle in fall 🐎 💪🏻

The girlies got baths today to cool off in this 90 degree weather. And then they got a little grazing time as a treat, cause there’s nothing better than hanging out in the shady grass with your ponies on a warm day!

Remember to stay safe in hot weather: electrical fires are the #️⃣1 type of barn fire. In particular, stall fans can be a huge liability. They get dusty, then that dust heats up and ignites.

It’s much safer to get out to the barn and hose off your horse, keep them in the shade somewhere with good airflow, and keep them hydrated with salt/electrolytes and constant access to water.
