"Only pump for 15 minutes" is no longer the recommendation. Some letdowns happen after a few moments, while others may take longer. It's important to start each pump session in "letdown" or "massage" mode and switch to "expression mode" once you notice a letdown. Some people feel the letdown reflex while others do not. You can watch the fl**ge tunnel for big droplets of milk at the beginning of a pump session. Once you see the droplets of milk, switch to "expression mode."

Excessive lubricant can hinder the pumps effectiveness by pulling too much tissue down the fl**ge tunnel. A small amount of lubricant should only be applied to the inner ring of the fl**ge tunnel opening. This is the only part where the breast tissue should rub against the fl**ge.

If your "perfect fit" feels too tight, you can go up 3mm on your fl**ge size. For example, if you measure at a 17mm, but...

If your "perfect fit" feels too tight, you can go up 3mm on your fl**ge size. For example, if you measure at a 17mm, but when you pump and it feels painful, try going up to a 21mm. It's ok to have a small ring of ar**la tissue in the fl**ge tunnel opening. Too much of this tissue can cause pain and damage though. This is why it is important to get fitted by a lactation professional.

Debris and moisture can significantly reduce the effectiveness of your pump's suction power. Always make sure your parts are washed, sterilized, and DRY before using them. You should never have moisture (water, condensation, milk, sweat, ect) in the tubing of your breast pump. If you find moisture in your tubing, it is time to replace the tubing.

SIZE MATTERS!!! Using a fl**ge that is to big or two small can significantly impact your milk supply. Get properly fitted by a trained professional such as a lactation consultant or breast pump specialist. You can order your correctly sized fl**ges or inserts online. Just make sure they are compatible with the pump you are using.
