šŸ‘‹ Allow me to reintroduce myself…

I’m Reina.

I catch babies for a living. I lift heavy things for fun. Both activities have taught me patience is šŸ”‘

I’m a home birth midwife serving families throughout the Orlando area, and I’m passionate about one thing above all else: making sure you know your options.

Because informed consent isn’t a trend.
It’s the bare minimum.

A few things about me:
šŸ‹šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Exercise ju**ie. If I’m not at a birth, I’m probably under a barbell.
ā¤ļø Family is everything. They’re my why behind everything I do.
🌿 Nature is my happy place. Fresh air fixes more than people give it credit for.
🩺 Midwife by profession. Advocate by default.

You’ll find plenty of birth content here—real stories, education, and the random rant.

I’m not here to convince everyone to have a home birth.

I’m here to remind you that your body isn’t a liability, your questions aren’t inconvenient, and your consent isn’t optional.

I am That Midwife šŸ˜‰

Stick around. Laugh with me. Cry with me. Be mad with me. Lift weights with me…if you dare šŸ‘»

Contrary to popular belief… healthcare isn’t a competitive sport. šŸ™ƒ

I’m not collecting enemies. I’m collecting colleagues.

One of the biggest flex I can have as a provider is to pick up the phone, ask another provider’s opinion, make a referral, or say, ā€œYou know who would be great for this?ā€

Good care involves seeking help or collaborations to help give a client a safe, intentional experience.

Midwives. OBs. MFM. Pelvic floor PTs. Lactation consultants. Primary care. Mental health providers. Nurses, Doulas; the list can go on.

Turns out… we all do better when we work together.

Crazy concept, I know. šŸ˜‰

Behind every contraction is a birther doing one of the hardest things she’ll ever do. Behind every set of vitals is someone making sure she’s safe enough to keep going.

People often ask how does one know if everything is ok at home?
The answer is simple: we watch and assess

Taking vitals periodically, and noting their trends.
How is baby tolerating the work?
How is the birther tolerating the work?
What’s the energy in the room?

I don’t need to be interrupting someone’s flow to take vitals or to assess wellbeing. I can do that gently and at their pace. And often times it’s just me and the team sitting in the corner on our hands, observing.

Birth can be peaceful and medically safe at the same time. We don’t have to forfeit one for the other.

Denis knows what’s up. Learning to support his wife in pregnancy was a learning experience.
Partner support and care is so important in the journey of pregnancy and birth.

On the outside we look ā€œjust fineā€ minus a baby bump. But we forget that even while we sleep our bodies are diligently working to lay the foundation of tiny muscles, organs, a brain, blood and processing of waste.

Understanding how exhausting it is to grow a baby is step one to being a supportive partner! It creates space for compassion and patience. It allows a person to show up fully for their loved one.

And with that kind of support, we reduce a lot of the mental and physical risks that can be tied to the journey.

She’s said ā€œThat’s a Hell Noā€

Support in the most vulnerable time of life includes feeling:

Safe enough to ask questions.
Safe enough to change your mind.
Safe enough to say you’re scared.
Safe enough to be yourself.

And studies show that when people feel safe in the care they receive, they are more likely to have greater birth satisfaction DESPITE the outcome (although the outcomes are generally better as well šŸ˜).

If you’re navigating your child rearing journey, Set those boundaries and DONT shy away from enforcing them.

šŸŽ¤ The Exit Interview: Former Clients Tell All

What happens when you hand the mic to former clients and let them share their experiences?

No rehearsals. Just real clients reflecting on their pregnancy, birth, postpartum journey, and what it was like receiving midwifery care.

these stories mean the world to me.

I’m excited to share this tiny series and let the voices of the families I’ve had the honor of serving speak for themselves.

I first heard about this self-collection kit months ago, and I’ve been excited to see it become available.

Pap smears are one of those important parts of women’s healthcare that aren’t always anyone’s favorite appointment—but they play a vital role in cervical cancer screening and prevention. The latest screening guidelines recommend a pap for any female aged 21-65 every 3 years and for those 30-65 an option for every 5 years if pairs with HPV testing.

As a midwife, I’m always looking for ways to make healthcare more accessible, comfortable, and patient-centered. That’s why I’m so glad to be able to offer this option to clients. For those who are hesitant about a speculum exam, have had difficult experiences in the past, or simply prefer a more private approach, this can be a wonderful alternative.

Midwifery is about meeting people where they are and helping them access the care they need in a way that feels respectful and empowering. More options mean more people getting screened—and that’s a win for everyone.

I have this conversation with clients all the time:
The days are long but the years are short, take advantage to enjoy every second you can with your little human- even when it’s tough.

Something no one warned me about is the constant grief I would experience as a mother. Emotional confusion as I celebrated accomplishments while also realizing my child would be closer to independence.

The first coo, rolling over, walking, talking, reading, to algebra honors, friendship discord, and completing 8th grade.

All we want is for our children to grow and to become better adults than us. But no one talks about grieving the fact that you’ll never experience that little, dependent, innocently curious person again. Never fit in one arm, never breastfeed again, never carried on your back. And yet how cool to see your hard work pay off as they go on to navigate life.

It really is bittersweet

So like this conversation always goes, stay home with your baby, sleep next to them, stare at them while they sleep, take every moment you can get cause before you know it- you’ll have a high schooler.

HOW do I have a HIGH SCHOOLER!!! 😭😭😭😭
