At Progress Therapy Services, we believe communication is a right—not a reward. For children who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), their communication device is more than a tablet or therapy tool—it is their voice.

One of the most common concerns we hear is: “If my child uses a device, will they still learn to talk?”

AAC is not about giving up on verbal speech. A child may know what they want, need, or want to share but have difficulty producing the words verbally. AAC gives them another pathway to communicate while their speech-language pathologist continues working to develop receptive language, expressive language, social communication, and spoken language when appropriate.
That’s why consistent access matters.

A child’s communication system should travel with them—to therapy, school, ABA, home, and throughout the community. We want our children to have access to their voices wherever they go.

UAB Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy students need infants and kids for our Baby/Kid Lab on Monday, October 13. This is a hands-on learning experience where students practice developmental assessments under supervision.

Kids of all ages (newborn and up) are welcome!
