This Mindful Monday — the small moments that hold us together. Relationship researchers Drs. John and Julie Gottman discovered that all day long, we make little "bids" for connection: a comment, a sigh, a "come look at this." How we respond matters more than we might think. We can turn toward (engaging, even briefly), turn away (missing it), or turn against (meeting it with irritation). In their research, couples who stayed happy turned toward each other's bids about 86% of the time — while struggling couples did so only about a third of the time. The beautiful part? The bar is low. Turning toward doesn't require a grand gesture — just acknowledgment. A glance, a question, a "mm, nice." And it's not only for romantic partners: our kids, friends, and coworkers make bids too. This week, see what happens when you notice them, and turn toward — just a little more often. 💙
