I’m a retired police detective with 19 years of experience and a certified NRA and USCCA firearms instructor. I created Hartman Tactics to help women and families take control of their safety through training that’s real, supportive, and built for everyday life. I spent nearly two decades investigating violent crimes, homicides, sex assaults, and crimes against children. I know what’s at stake whe

n people aren’t prepared. That’s why I teach with purpose and keep things clear, grounded, and direct. My goal is to help you feel confident, strong, informed, and capable. I believe women are not only worth protecting, but fully capable of protecting themselves and the people they love. I believe there’s life after trauma. I help you learn to trust your gut again. One of the questions I get asked a lot is how to keep a firearm secured while still being able to access it quickly if needed.

I’ve been using this safe from RPNB Safe and I’m loving the different access options. It has fingerprint access, a keypad, and a backup key, plus enough room to hold multiple fi****ms.

At the end of the day, fi****ms should never be accessible to people who shouldn’t have access to them.

PART 1 | Conversations That Protect Children

parents, I know this is uncomfortable to talk about, but it’s so important.

If a child ever discloses abuse, or something inappropriate to you, those first conversations are incredibly important.

Most parents immediately want answers, detail, details, and clarity. That reaction is completely understandable.

But from an investigative standpoint, the way adults respond during child abuse disclosures can unintentionally impact both the child and the investigation later on.

And regardless of whether report is ever made, children still deserve to feel heard, supported, and believed.

That’s what this series is about.

Part 2 explains why even well-intentioned questions can unintentionally influence a child’s disclosure.

Danger isn’t always obvious.

And I’d be willing to bet many of you know exactly what I’m talking about when I say it’s often in the subtle things that stay with you.

The interaction that felt a little too familiar.
The repeated “coincidences.”
The person who slowly starts inserting themselves into your space.

Pay attention to what’s feeling off, and stop talking yourself out of what you’re noticing.

These are the kinds of patterns I often saw as a detective, and now the kinds of things I teach women to pay attention to.

One of the biggest eye-openers for the ladies?

How fast someone can close the distance on you.

Pepper spray drills were done with inert training spray, but even in a controlled environment, you could see the stress response kick in almost immediately.

That’s why getting to your tool quickly is so important. Because once someone is moving toward you, you won’t have time to dig through your purse or your pockets.
