The widely used Over-the-Counter (OTC) medication alli (Orlistat), intended to aid in weight management, has undergone a label modification recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This revision serves as a warning regarding the ‘Risk of Kidney Stones’ and ‘Kidney Injury’.
The revised label advises consumers to consult a healthcare provider prior to using alli if they have a history of kidney disease, kidney stones, or chronic kidney disease. Furthermore, the label change instructs consumers to discontinue use of alli and consult a doctor if symptoms of kidney injury or kidney stones manifest, such as back or groin pain, painful urination, hematuria, edema of the feet and legs, or decreased urination frequency.

Many women of African descent suffer from uterine fibroids.
Till today, there is no known scientific evidence of what t causes fibroids which are non cancerous growth that are benign tumors on the uterus tissues.
Some fibroids are small as a seed while some can grow to the size of a melon. These fibroids can be symptomatic or asymptomatic depending on the sizes.
Since my twenties, and now into my fifties, I have managed my fibroids. My current treatment helped me significantly with my symptoms, but came with weight gain and increased blood sugar.
I will prefer to manage my treatment side effects with lifestyle changes like exercise and watching what I eat and keeping track on my blood sugar.

According to a National Center for Health Statistics report, the US maternal mortality rate was more than 3 times higher for Black women than those of other racial or ethnic groups in 2023.
Over 80% of Black maternal deaths are preventable because it is primarily driven by cardiovascular complications, systemic inequities, and implicit bias within the healthcare system.
Educating childbearing women about their health pre and post-pregnancy is crucial in helping them understand their health conditions, adhere to medication regimens, and access reproductive care.

On 04/06/2026, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a consumer advisory against purchasing or using “WAP” Sensual Enhancement Supplement, a product promoted and sold for sexual enhancement on various websites, including ebay.com, and potentially available in some retail stores.
Laboratory analysis revealed the presence of undeclared pharmaceutical ingredients, specifically Sildenafil, Tadalafil, and Flibanserin.
The combined drug to drug interactions of these substances within the body's cardiovascular system pose significant health risks.

May is Mental Health Month. We all know that the health of our minds is very important in helping us make well-informed decisions about our health and well-being.
The Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has made a public statement regarding the safety and efficacy of widespread use of Selective Serotonin Receptor Inhibitors (SSRIs) as well as other Psychiatric medications in the treatment of mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, and many who are on some of these antipsychotic medications have legitimate questions and concerns.
Recently, there have been an overwhelming consensus amongst psychiatric, primary care, pharmacy professional organizations, the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) that have issued statements backing that SSRIs are safe and effective as first-line treatments for depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, and several other conditions when prescribed and monitored properly. Deprescribing can be appropriate on an individual, clinician-guided basis, and each patient must consult with their health care provider on what steps are best for them.
As a Pharmacist who dispenses these medications, it is imperative to work hand in glove with initiators of care to ensure that the right antipsychotic medications are prescribed and that patients' medications are constantly reviewed to ensure there are no drug-to-drug or drug-to-hormone interactions, which often is the case for some women or men experiencing sexual dysfunction.
Pharmacists must educate patients on these medications, thereby closing health literacy gaps, contact prescribers if there are adverse side effects, and follow up with patients to ensure satisfactory health outcomes, and collaborate with their healthcare providers in tapering off the antipsychotic medications when necessary.
