🧠 Understanding Brain Injury Series | Month 5

Brain injuries can impact emotions and behavior. Mood swings, irritability, anxiety, or depression may occur due to changes in the brain—not personal choice. Education and support are key for both survivors and caregivers.

Last week, we had a great time celebrating Cinco de Mayo with our patients by cooking and sharing a meal together, along with fun leisure activities, including a piñata!

Beyond the celebration, this was a meaningful opportunity to work on important functional goals. From cooking and following a recipe to practicing mobility in the kitchen and focusing on safety, patients were able to build skills that support greater independence in everyday life.

At Moody Neuro Lubbock, we love incorporating special events into treatment creating moments that are not only enjoyable, but purposeful. It’s all part of helping our patients reach their highest level of independence while staying engaged and connected.

This month, Moody Neuro proudly recognizes the important work of our Speech-Language Pathologists, and the impact communication and cognitive rehabilitation have on everyday life.

At Moody Neuro, our speech therapy services go far beyond speech alone. Our clinicians address cognitive skills such as memory, attention, problem-solving, organization, and safety awareness, along with communication and speech skills that help patients successfully navigate daily life.

These skills play a vital role in promoting independence, helping individuals return to meaningful conversations, manage daily responsibilities, engage in their communities, and improve overall quality of life following a brain injury or neurological event.

We are grateful for the dedication, compassion, and expertise our SLP team brings to each patient’s rehabilitation journey every day.

This week, we proudly recognize and celebrate the incredible nurses who are an essential part of our program and the heart of patient care - Chelby, Kayli, and Mercedes.

At Moody Neuro, our nurses do so much more than provide medical support, they play a vital role in each patient’s rehabilitation journey. From medication management and health monitoring to patient education and real-time collaboration with our interdisciplinary team, they help ensure every individual is supported safely and holistically.

Chelby, Kayli, and Mercedes build meaningful relationships with patients, advocate for their needs, and help bridge the gap between clinical care and everyday life, encouraging progress, independence, and confidence along the way.

Their compassion, skill, and dedication do not go unnoticed. We are so grateful for the impact they make each and every day.

👏 Help us celebrate and thank these amazing nurses!

Because of YOU! Our community, patients, families, and supporters, this year’s event was filled with purpose, connection, and hope!

Miles for Moody was born from a simple but powerful mission: to meet the real, everyday needs of individuals recovering from life-altering brain injuries. While insurance may cover parts of medical care, it often does not cover essential equipment, home modifications, or resources that make a safe and successful return home possible.

We see the challenges families face: unexpected costs, emotional strain, and life changes in an instant. That’s where Miles for Moody makes a difference.

This event is more than a fundraiser. It’s West Texas showing up for one another. It’s neighbors supporting neighbors. It’s a community rallying together to ease burdens and help bridge the gap between medical care and real-life needs.

Every step taken and every dollar raised brings us closer to helping patients regain independence and rebuild their lives.

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for making Miles for Moody 2026 unforgettable. 👟

May is National Stroke Awareness Month

A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted by either a blockage or a ruptured blood vessel, causing brain cells to begin sustaining damage within minutes.

In the United States, someone has a stroke every 40 seconds, and nearly 795,000 people experience a stroke each year.

Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability, but early recognition and treatment can save lives and improve recovery outcomes.

At Moody Neuro, we are committed to supporting individuals and their families through every stage of recovery, helping rebuild independence, strength, and quality of life.

Moody Neuro staff recently attended the Hub City Access Gala, a meaningful event that returned after being on hold since 2020. This year’s “Dress your Decade” theme brought a fun and nostalgic energy to the evening, making it even more special as we reconnected with familiar faces, met new community members, and gathered in support of an important cause.

Hub City Access began as a local initiative supported by the Lester E. Wolcott Foundation, along with community advocates, healthcare providers, and individuals with disabilities. Their mission is to make our community accessible to all by promoting awareness and inclusion so individuals with disabilities can live more independently, enjoy freedom of choice, and lead meaningful, productive lives.

We are proud to support organizations that align with our commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and empowering those we serve.

Hitting tunnels aren’t just for athletes -they can be a 💥powerful💥 tool to aid in building frustration tolerance for emotional regulation and recovery!

Recently, Moody Neuro Lubbock created our own version down a therapy hallway. For individuals living with brain injury, managing frustration can be one of the toughest daily challenges. Structured, physical outlets, such as aiming and swinging at a target, provide a safe and controlled environment to release built-up tension. The repetitive motion, focus, and immediate feedback, help redirect overwhelming emotions into purposeful action while also providing a rehabilitation outlet and opportunity.

It’s not about hitting home runs-it’s about rebuilding control, confidence, and resilience one swing at a time. When therapy meets movement, healing can look a little different-and sometimes, it sounds like the crack of a bat. Batter up! ⚾️
