What even is MCAS, and why does no one seem to understand it?
Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) happens when your mast cells, the immune cells that are supposed to protect you, start overreacting to everything.
They release histamine, cytokines, and other inflammatory chemicals, even when there’s no threat. The result?
Symptoms all over the place. No clear root cause. No standard test. And doctors scratching their heads.
It affects an estimated 1 in 6 people, but most are misdiagnosed with IBS, anxiety, fibromyalgia, or “just hormones.”
And here’s what makes it even trickier:
MCAS symptoms shift daily, often triggered by stress, food, smells, heat, cold, hormones, or nothing obvious at all.
For women, it often gets worse during perimenopause, when progesterone (which helps stabilize mast cells) drops and estrogen (which makes mast cells more reactive) fluctuates.
Add in existing gut issues, chronic stress, trauma, or genetic mutations like MTHFR, and it’s like lighting a match in a dry forest.
Most women end up feeling completely hopeless because:
•They’ve seen every specialist, but no one connects the dots
•They feel allergic to life, and terrified of food or supplements
•They’re told it’s “just in your head” when it’s clearly in their body
But here’s the truth: You’re not “stuck with this.” You’re inflamed.
And with the right plan, you can calm your mast cells and get your life back.
That’s exactly what I walk you through in my Practical Guide to Histamine and MCAS.
