This Pilates student is training for an open water swim. In our workouts, we are working on the exercise "Swimming". His thoracic spine was stiff, so I used Neurokinetic Therapy to unlock the spine from waist to shoulder blade.

The result was greater full body engagement and more overall freedom in his spine. He could FEEL THE DIFFERENCE!

Pilates doesn't have a type.

It meets you exactly where you are — in your body, in your life, in this season. Whatever brought you here, whether it was pain, curiosity, or just a quiet feeling that something needs to change, there's a place for you in our studio.

All of you. Exactly as you are.

The thing about starting Pilates is that it's just a decision. And sometimes the best decisions are the ones someone who loves you helps you make.

Michael, we're so glad you walked through our doors 🤍

Joseph Pilates once said: "If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. If it is completely flexible at 60, you are young."

I've been thinking about those words a lot lately — because today, I get to say I've made it past 60 and kept right on moving. 65 years young, to be exact.

My practice is far from perfect. It's a work in progress, just like I am. But isn't that the beauty of it? Every session is a chance to get a little more curious, a little more open, a little more present in this body I'm lucky enough to call mine.

Pilates has shaped every decade of my life, and I couldn't be more grateful. Here's to 65 feeling like one very well-warmed-up beginning. 🥂

Pilates looks gentle from the outside. And in a lot of ways it is. But the kind of strength it builds is the kind most people never even knew they were missing. Deep, controlled, and connected.

Here in the Heights, we practice Classical Pilates.

What that means for you is a session that feels completely different from anything you have probably tried before. Every movement has a reason. Every exercise connects to the next. Nothing is filler. You will finish a session feeling like your whole body just woke up, not just the muscles you expected.

Since the method was designed as a complete system, our teachers at the studio will not just cue you through a workout. They are reading your body, understanding how you move, and guiding you toward something that gets better and more powerful every single time you show up.

When was the last time you got to the end of a workday and actually felt good?

For most desk workers, the answer is... a while. And it makes sense. Our bodies were built to move, not to sit in the same position for 8 hours staring at a screen.

The tricky part is that the effects sneak up on you. The stiff neck, the low back ache, the afternoon energy crash. Over time you just start to accept them as normal. They are not normal.

Swipe through to see what's really happening inside your body during a desk day.

Hi! I'm Kristen Dockter, founder of Studio KDRx Pilates. I get asked about the name alot, and honestly, I love telling the story.

Most people know our primary method as ""Pilates."" But Joseph Pilates, the man who created it, actually called it ""Contrology."" And he wrote a book titled Return to Life, because that's what he truly believed: that mindful, intentional movement could return you to yourself.

The KD is me — my initials.

The Rx is your prescription.

Your prescription for returning to life. To movement. To feeling strong in your own body again. To getting even stronger by working with someone who understands how to apply the Pilates method.

We work with people coming back from injury, managing chronic pain, rebuilding strength after time away, ready to feel more like themselves, or to get even stronger by improving connection to their powerhouse and better understanding full body engagement.

So if you've been waiting for a sign to discover (or rediscover) Pilates, this is your Rx. 💚

What's one thing you'd love to get back to feeling like yourself again?

A Pilates student went to an orthopedic doctor who ordered a lower and upper thoracic MRI to look for a resolution to a problem of pain in the lower ribs. He told her, “You have kyphosis,” which occurs when the spine curves outward more than normal, giving the appearance of a hunched or slouched posture. I thought, “No kidding — you needed an MRI for that?”

I palpated the muscles along her spine and found the region between the ribs and waist very tight. NKT testing indicated they were locked — so tight or tense that they do not respond well to stretching. I used the NKT protocol to unlock the spinal muscles, as well as the serratus posterior inferior (along the bottom of the rib cage).

Voila — kyphosis reduced in one hour! Can you tell the difference?

A little peek into where the magic happens. 🌸

We get asked a lot what makes Studio KDRx different. Honestly the space says a lot of it without us having to. It is small on purpose. Quiet on purpose. Personal on purpose.

We are located in a Houston Heights bungalow and we love everything that comes with that. The warmth, the intimacy, the feeling that you are somewhere that genuinely cares about you. Because you are.
If you have been looking for a place that feels different from everything else you have tried, we think you will feel it the moment you walk in.

Pilates isn't about pushing harder or doing more. It's about coming back to yourself. It's about breathing through the hard moments, finding stillness in the movement, and reminding your nervous system that it's safe to slow down.

So if you've been feeling foggy, anxious, reactive, or just... not like yourself — this is your gentle reminder that there is a way through. Take things one breath at a time. 🤍
