This Leadership Friday, we recognize our student doctor leaders: Salvia Zafar, Chance Anderson, and Hannah Hilbelink!

Our student docs are 4th-year medical students who use their clinical expertise and experience to help diagnose and treat whoever walks into the clinic. When asked what MMO means to them, this is what they had to say:

“I’ve been lucky enough to work with Marshall Medical Outreach for a couple years. It has been an immensely rewarding experience to work as student doctor alongside people who have the same passion for street medicine and giving back to their community. A strong community is one that looks after its most vulnerable and the work of MMO has exemplified what makes the Huntington community so great.“ - Chance Anderson

“MMO has been one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences of my medical school journey. It has been incredibly fulfilling to witness the direct impact we are able to make in our patients’ lives. I firmly believe that medical care is a basic human right, not a privilege. Being able to provide care to patients who may otherwise go without medical attention has been both humbling and inspiring. Serving underserved populations has reminded me that medicine is not only about diagnosing and treating disease, but also about advocacy, trust, and meeting people where they are.” - Salvia Zafar

We’re thankful to have leaders who are so dedicated and passionate about the health and well-being of the community they serve. Join the student doctors and the rest of the team this Saturday for another day of free services.

This Leadership Friday, we recognize the leader of our Blood Glucose Screenings service, Rachael Bare!

Rachael is first-year medical student who has spent months managing, developing, and improving our glucose screening station. When asked what MMO means to her, this is what she had to say:

“MMO has given me the chance to put what I’ve learned in class to practice and meaningfully contribute to improving community health. Knowing that I can help our patients learn about, manage, and receive care for their health conditions makes the effort of medical school worth it, and has shown me how much our work means to local community health initiatives. If there’s one way to make a difference in healthcare as a medical student, it’s through projects like MMO that help the most medically underserved populations in your area.”

We’re grateful for the time and effort Rachael has put into MMO, and we’re happy to have someone invested in the community every month. Come join Rachael and the rest of the team tomorrow for another weekend of free services!
