I am very excited about this book being released today!
A great deal of my personal success in managing my type 1 diabetes is because of Dr Lake’s example. The success I have with my type 1 clients also has a great deal to do with what I have learned from Dr lake over the years.
Dr Ian Lake is a General Practitioner, athlete and type 1 diabetic who believes strongly in helping others achieve their best lives while managing type 1. He has been a great example to myself and so many others.
The book was just released today - available through Amazon and Kindle.

Do you take insulin? Are you prepared for emergencies? This post is a good reminder of things you need to have in place.

Are you using an insulin pump?
And are you prepared for an emergency?

It's important to have a backup plan for all reasons, and not just a valid prescription that can be filled if needed, but the physical supplies on hand, just in case.

In the event of a natural disaster, supply chain issue, extended power outage, or zombie apocalypse, having the supplies and knowing how to use them would be crucial.

Also, for a long-acting insulin, many endos are prescribing Tresiba, which may not be the best choice, because it is not effective immediately and builds to full strength over the first three days of use. Levemir or Lantus are better options for immediate effectiveness in the case of an emergency.

What you need:
- Long-acting insulin (Levemir or Lantus are best)
- Rapid-acting insulin (Regular/Human insulin is the most stable without refrigeration)
- Pen needles and/or syringes
- Blood sugar meter and a backup
- Batteries for blood sugar meter(s)
- Test strips for your blood sugar meter(s)
- Portable, non-electrical way to keep insulin cool(er) such as the XL Frio pack

And as many supplies as many as you can stockpile.

What would you add to the list?

An important step in improving your metabolic health is to focus on the fact that food is indeed for nourishment — not for entertainment.
Today’s modern society has combined food & entertainment to the point where many people don’t think they can have one without the other and it becomes a huge problem for those individuals struggling with food addiction, weight gain, diabetes, and insulin resistance. Reframe how you look at food and it will soon become a part of the foundation to building a healthier metabolism.

As this year comes to a close, I’m filled with gratitude.
I’m incredibly thankful for my clients—their trust, commitment, and the progress they’ve made in improving metabolic health, insulin resistance, blood sugars, weight, and overall well-being.
As we head into the new year, let's stay focused on the basics: real food, quality sleep, movement, sunshine, reducing toxins, and being present each day.
Here’s to continued growth, clarity, and health.
May 2026 be your best year yet.
